DMS Needs YOUR HELP in Supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

DMS will be joining Madison City Schools to help raise money to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital! A challenge has been made by Mr. Golliver at LMS and my competitive side has kicked in and I have accepted this challenge!!! (He thinks they can raise more money for St. Jude than Discovery!) We would like to raise at least $2,500 to help the children of St. Jude and beat Liberty!

Students will vote on their favorite photo in each category by purchasing “tickets” for $0.25 each or FIVE tickets for $1.00 November 10-14, 2014. ALL money raised will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!

The WINNER of each category will win a $10 gift card to Monaco Pictures and will have their photo featured in the yearbook!!!

Mrs. Missy King, Media Specialist, and Mrs. Kelle Moody, Counselor, will be running in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon, representing DMS, on December 6, 2014 with the Madison City Schools District Team! Help show your support by donating to St. Jude! No amount is too small!!! Just click the link to make a Tax Deductible Donation and help us help all the children of St. Jude!!! http://heroes.stjude.org/MissyKingDMS

Did you know?

  • Many students from Madison City Schools have received treatment from St. Jude and some are receiving treatment NOW...ALL without having to pay a single penny!!! You can check out stories of local Madison City Students that have received or are currently receiving treatment on the “District News” page at www.madisoncity.k12.al.us .
  • Families NEVER receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
  • Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from people like you, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most – saving kids regardless of their financial situation. (That means your donation, no matter what the size, will help!)
  • St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90% by 2020.

St. Jude won't stop until no child dies of cancer, and neither will I. Will you join us and be a Hero, too?

Thank you so much for your help!!!

DMS Veteran's Day Program a Moving Tribute

WHNT News 19 - Story Friendship Blooms between WWII Veterans

WHNT News 19 - Story DMS Pays Tribute to Veteran's

Al.com Story - DMS Veteran's Day Program

Madison Weekly News - DMS Veteran's Day Program

Per Channel 19 News - "While voters scurried around to get to the voting polls and cast their ballots in the general election, students and staff at Discovery Middle School in Madison stopped everything to honor the men and women who’ve protected American rights and freedom.

The school invited in veterans of all branches for their third Annual Tribute to Heroes. They served some 50 veterans, including a Silver Star recipient, a hot breakfast, then put on an hour-long ceremony to say thank you for the sacrifices and contributions made by veterans to ensure American freedom."

Thank you Mr. Graham for having the vision to plan this great program each year. Thank you to Ms. Jenkins, the choir blessed us and did just an outstanding job. Thank you to Mr. Murray, the band was outstanding (as usual) and the song selection was wonderful. Thank you to PTA for preparing the breakfast and working to serve our visitors. Thank you to Mrs. Brooks and Mrs. Parker for working to have the dance and cheer ready to participate. They did a great job as well. Thank you to our students for being so respectful and truly showing why they are the best MS students in the state. Thank you to all our staff and faculty – it all would not work as well as does without you. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

DEADLINE EXTENDED - PTA Family School Partnership Surveys for National PTA School of Excellance Program

Dear Families,

The deadline has been extended for our Family-School Partnership Surveys. If you have already taken them, thank you. If not, please take a few minutes of your day to add to our project. It should only take 5-10 minutes of your time and would be greatly appreciated!

The Discovery PTA knows that a strong partnership among our families, school leaders, and community is important for the success of our students and school. That’s why we are participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which celebrates partnerships between PTA and schools to enrich the educational experience for all students.

We need your help! As part of the process, National PTA requests feedback from families at the beginning and the end of the school year.. Your feedback now will help to generate a customized Roadmap to Excellence, which will provide specific recommendations for improving our family-school partnership and achieving excellence in our school.
