Random Acts Matter
Join us in spreading care and compassion during Random Acts of Kindness Week, February 12th-19th. Corron will be focused on making the world a little better, one small act of kindness at a time, in partnership with the organization Random Acts Matter. There is no better way to help your neighbor than to do something unexpected! This is the simple idea behind the formation of Random Acts Matter. You can find more information here.
We will “Paint Corron Orange” on Friday, February 17th. The color orange represents kindness as it combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. Therefore, all students are encouraged to wear orange to celebrate making a difference in the world!
Student Council Art Supply Drive
Student Council is hosting an art supply drive for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, February 20th through the 24th. Student council members will be in the front foyer collecting the donations. A leading children's hospital, St. Jude treats the toughest childhood cancers and pediatric diseases. Your donation will mean so much to many children. Items that can be donated should be new and include popsicle sticks, crayons, colored pencils, markers, glue sticks and paint.
Vision and Hearing Screening scheduled for February
Each year students receiving special education, those new to the State of Illinois schools, and those in mandated grades have vision and hearing screening performed in school by certified vision/hearing technicians. Corron is scheduled for this routine screening during the week of 2/20/23. Hearing screening is mandated for elementary students in kindergarten, first, second and third grades. Vision is mandated for kindergarten and second grade for those who do not have a current vision exam. If you have any questions about this process, please feel free to reach out to the Corron nurses at cor-nurses@d303.org.

Corron Community Showcase
In an attempt to build additional positive connections between Corron and our community, we’d like to provide students with additional learning experiences through a “Corron Community Showcase”. This will occur during lunch hours (11:00-1:00) beginning in January. We are looking for adult volunteers to present!
Some showcase ideas may include:
a special or hidden talent
a skill
a musical performance
a “how-to” lesson
teaching about your career
teaching about a culture or special holiday
The options are endless! Your creativity is welcome!
From 11:00-1:00 you would be presenting a 6-10 minute showcase that would be repeated for each grade level lunch. If you are interested, please fill out this form and someone will be in contact with you! If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Bedenbaugh @
jamie.bedenbaugh@d303.org or 331-228-6900.

View Notification Preferences/Enable Text Messages
District 303 will send notifications to families through the ParentLink system by text message, phone call and email based on your settings. Parents/guardians can view and edit their contact settings through the Home Access Center.
To receive timely emergency communications, we strongly encourage families to enable text notifications. For most people, this is the fastest way to receive and view important messages. Here’s how:
- From the HAC main menu, select the “registration” tab to view your contact settings
- Select the “edit” button to change your contact settings
- To enable text message notifications, enter your cell phone number in the SMS/text message field
- Select the “save” button
From the Health Office
The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us! Recently, the nurses in District 303 have been caring for a number of students experiencing fevers and other cold-like symptoms. We are also aware that some students are absent from school because they have been diagnosed with the flu and other respiratory illnesses, such as RSV. During the months of October through April, each school in District 303 tracks influenza activity in cooperation with the Kane County Health Department. We consult with their staff to determine whether influenza activity in a school warrants additional follow up and, at this time, no additional interventions are needed. Preventative measures remain the most effective way to reduce the spread of influenza and other viral illnesses.
Students who present to the Health Office with a fever and/or feeling poorly are sent home. To prevent widespread illness in school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:
CONSIDER KEEPING YOUR CHILD AT HOME for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
Headache
Mild stomach ache
DEFINITELY KEEP YOUR CHILD AT HOME for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
Fever (greater than 100 degrees)
Vomiting (even once)
Diarrhea
Chills
General malaise or feelings of fatigue
Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
TO HELP PREVENT THE FLU AND OTHER COLDS, teach your children good hygiene habits:
Wash hands frequently
Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
Avoid close contact with people who are ill
Colds and viruses are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever should remain at home until "fever free" and for a minimum of 24 hours. A child who has started antibiotics needs to be on medication for at least 24 hours before he/she is considered non-contagious and able to return to school. Keeping your ill child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom!
Thank you in advance for helping make this year at school as healthy as possible.
