Arctic Blast
Glacier Ridge Elementary School 09.03.21
Dear Glacier Ridge Families,
Dear Glacier Ridge Families, We have had another great week here at school and the students are doing an awesome job.
We held our first set of drills. These were announced and everything went very smoothly. We did have to remind a few to not cover their ears (the fire alarm is loud) since we need to make sure that they can hear directions.
Also this week shield testing began. If you signed up, but your child wasn't tested there is information in the Blast from the district explaining where they are at in the process of getting everyone in the system.
District required summative student assessments begin for all students next week. These are called FastBridge, and they are a quick snapshot of literacy and math. These assessments help us determine your child's instructional level and measure their growth over time. Your child's teacher will share more information about this as it pertains to each grade level at Parent Night.
Students have been doing so well we are giving them Monday off. Actually, it is for Labor Day so enjoy the long weekend.
All the best,
Mr. Jacosben and Mrs. Reinhardt

Parking Lot Procedures and Safety
- Please remain in your vehicle - For the safety of our students and in an effort to keep the flow of traffic moving, we ask that you remain in your car and have your child exit the vehicle curbside. Of course, if you would like or need to assist your child with a last-minute item, please feel free to park in a designated parking spot.
- Students should not be allowed to cross the parking lot crosswalk without an adult. Because of this students may NOT be dropped off or picked up on either side of Village Road at the crosswalk nearest the school. Cars should pull into the lot and use the drop-off/pick-up lane.
- Do not drop students off beyond our drop-off zone, any farther will disrupt our bus drop-off.
- Please drive slowly and be patient - We are trying our hardest to smooth out kinks to help arrival/dismissal run more smoothly. There are a lot of moving parts for us to analyze and your consideration as we do this is very much appreciated.
Breakfast at Glacier Ridge
It's A Bird! It's A Plane! It's SUPER Library!
During Library Class in the last two weeks, we have reviewed behavior and procedures in the library. Next week, we will discuss caring for checked out materials and begin book checkout. Please designate a spot for library books in your home. Books are returned every day, so there is no reason to wait until your child's Library Day to return them. Every day is a good day to return books your child has finished reading. We are still missing many titles which were checked out from 2020 and 2021. Please check your homes for any books that may have not been returned. We appreciate your time to look! If you are unable to find books or need to know the titles that were checked out, please email gwjohnston@d47.org. We can let you know the amount to replace missing items.
Please send photos of Polar Bear students reading superhero books or dressed as superheroes, and we can put them on the bulletin board! Please email photos to glacierridgereads@gmail.com.
Do you love to craft? Do you have some time to work on library projects from home? We have several volunteer library projects and could use your help! Some projects are using old book pages and "modge podge." Please contact Mrs. Johnston at gwjohnston@d47.org if you are interested. We can arrange a supply pick up with directions.
Summer Bucket Lists from last May can be turned in for a prize through September 10. Please send completed forms to Mrs. Johnston in the library. THANK YOU!
