Dear NSE Families,
Happy New Year NSE Families!
After a long break and a new year, it seemed like a good time to share a few important reminders about School Start/End Times, our Parking Lot Guidelines, Winter Gear and other important news. Also, please make sure to take the time to read the classroom newsletters that are sent home by your child’s teacher.
As always, please contact us should you have questions or need assistance with any information.
We wish you all health and happiness in the new year!

Parking Lot Reminders and Information
Each morning and afternoon your continued cooperation and alertness in our parking lots helps to keep students safe. We appreciate your efforts in helping us maintain a safe environment for children. Therefore, we wanted to take a moment and remind you of our Parking Lot Guidelines. We have also included a map (see below) that we hope will assist in understanding traffic flow, pedestrian movement, and parking.
NSE Parking Lot Guidelines:
1. Constantly watch for children!
2. Drive slow and be patient!
3. Pull as far forward as possible in the parent load/unload loop.
4. Remember to also drive slow in the neighborhood as we have many students that walk to and from school.
5. Heed our Crossing Guards' directions.
6. Absolutely NO student drop-offs in the Bus Loop.
7. If you pull in to park (rather than using the parent load/unload loop) please park in the designated Parent Parking area (see map).
Also you MUST walk with your child AND USE the crossing area onto the sidewalk.
Do not allow your child to walk through the parking lot without an adult escorting him/her and PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS THROUGH THE DROP OFF LOOP!
8. If you arrive late (8:25 a.m.) you must come into the school to sign in your child.
Again, thank you for your attention to student safety. We appreciate your cooperation and support!

Winter Gear
As a reminder with colder temperatures, it is very important that students are dressed appropriately while waiting at the bus stop and for recess. On days when the temperature reaches 0 degrees (windchill temperatures are used) or below, students will stay inside for recess. This is also true if there is heavy (soaking) precipitation (rain, snow, etc.)
Please plan to have your child prepared with a pair of winter boots, snow pants, winter coat, gloves, and a hat. If you need assistance with these items, please let your child’s teacher know. We want all of our students to be dressed appropriately warm for the winter weather.
Learning Feedback Document
The end of our first semester on January 27th signals an opportunity to celebrate your child's learning.
On Wednesday, February 1st, your child will bring home his/her Learning Feedback Document (LFD). Along with this, you will receive information about LFD and the Gradebook/Parent Vue. Not only will you receive a printed copy of the LFS sent home with your child, you can also view the LFD online via Parent Vue.
If you have questions about the LFD, please be sure to contact your child's teacher.
Kindergarten Information Night
In the Fall of 2017, two Kindergarten options will be offered:
- Full Day Kindergarten at every elementary school.
- Young 5's Kindergarten (available for students that turn 5 between June 1st-December 1st). This is a full-day program offered at our Early Childhood Center and also at Independence Elementary. Students that attend Young 5's will attend Kindergarten the following year at their home school.
To learn more about these options, as well as information about enrollment, we encourage our future Kindergarten parents to attend Kindergarten Information Night on Thursday, February 9th starting at 7:00 p.m. This evening event is held at Clarkston Junior High School located at 6595 Waldon Road.

Student Information System - ParentVue
The ParentVue portal is an important part of our Student Information System. In this portal parents can view their child’s attendance, transportation information, academic progress, and update important student information like phone numbers, emergency contacts, etc. As we continue to work toward paperless communications, please plan to use ParentVue regularly.
It is important that you take the time to set up and activate your account if you have not already done so. You will need an activation key to do this. Here’s how:
1. Email SynergySupport@clarkston.k12.mi.us to request an activation key. Provide the following information in your email:
