Helping The Delaware County SPCA

ALL ANIMALS DESERVE TO BE CARED FOR

Many animals are abused, neglected or no longer cared for. The Delaware County SPCA cares for and adopts out pets they rescue from overcrowded shelters, pets that are relinquished by their owners as well as animals that have suffered cruelty from neglect. In addition to placing thousands of animals into forever homes, they promote responsible pet ownership and combat pet overpopulation through their pet retention programs such as low- cost public veterinary care, pet food banks, animal cruelty investigations and humane education.

I love all animals and believe they deserve love, affection and care. I have made an impact on some of these animals lives by volunteering my time two days a week. I socialize with the cats by holding them, reading to them, playing with them with their cat toys and brushing them. I take the dogs for a walk as well play with them in their outdoor pens. By socializing with these animals it helps them become more comfortable and feel loved and safe in their new surroundings. This helps them become more easily adoptable.

In addition to volunteering my time, I also have made pet toys for the animals. These include cat pyramids and dog treat rolls. Both are so simple to make and only take a few minutes each. I also have collected and donated sheets and towels. They even need newspapers - what a great way to recycle!

This experience has been life changing for me. I plan on continuing my volunteer work into the future.

Check out the Delaware County SPCA website at www.delcospca.org to view their donation wish list. Many items can be saved from home and recycled such as sheets and newspapers as well as many can be purchased at the dollar store such as hand sanitizer and bleach.
