The Lion's Share Newsletter
February 2021
From the Desk of Mr. Miller:
Grant Families,
I sincerely hope that our February newsletter finds you all well! February is typically a slow month when it comes to school events. Usually we are gearing up for our Dance Demo Day, Valentine's Day parties, and wondering if we are going to have any snow days! COVID has really changed how we operate, and personally, I can't wait until we don't have to worry about canceling events or not being able to bring you all in to celebrate with our Lions.
In a couple of weeks, we will be holding Valentine's Day parties for our students on Friday, February 12. We would love to continue with our tradition of students bringing in cards for their classmates! In order to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, I am asking that all cards/items be brought in on Tuesday, February 9th. This will give all the items 3 days of rest without anyone touching them prior to the parties on Friday! Also, an update to having treats in the building is that treats are allowed as long as they are store bought and sealed! We will have to continue to turn away any homemade items, unfortunately.
As we have been having Lions in-person the last couple of weeks, I would like to ask that students be dropped off at 7:45 in order for students to be on time, ensure they receive a choice of breakfast, and aren't marked tardy/absent. We have had a large number of students being dropped off late each day. As a friendly reminder, breakfast in the classrooms begins at 7:50, school starts at 8:00, and any student that comes to school after 8:20 has to be marked absent for the morning session in accordance with state law. We really want our students to start their morning off right with some time to check-in over breakfast with their classmates and teacher prior to instruction starting at 8:00! I would greatly appreciate it!
As you know, we take student safety very seriously. I would like to ask that during student drop-off and pick-up on the Shadowglen Dr. side of the building, we take all necessary precautions to keep our Lions safe. Please follow the following rules:
- Do not stop in the middle of the street to let your Lion out to run to the curb.
- Do not let your student out from the opposite side of the street to run across Shadowglen Dr. With parked cars and busses, this is a big safety concern as drivers don't always see small children crossing the street unattended.
- Please do not park in the yellow school bus zone.
- Please do not park in the blue handicap zone unless you have a handicap placard. This includes only for a couple of minutes. We have multiple families that need that space.
- Finally, please do not park in front of our neighbor's driveways or in our neighbor's driveways! Several times this year, we have had neighbors blocked in and haven't been able to leave their home for work due to unattended cars blocking their driveway.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let us know how we can best support you!
Thank you,
Ryan Miller
