Message from Principal Haugens
IAR testing is almost complete. The students in third through fifth grades have done an excellent job completing assessments. Make-up testing will take place next week. Results from the IAR assessment typically come out the following school year. Much appreciation goes out to the DuJardin staff for preparing the students for these assessments. We also want to thank the DuJardin PTO for providing all students with a special treat for their efforts with testing. All students in the building will get an Italian Ice treat courtesy of the PTO!
MAP testing will take place at all grade levels between May 9th - 18th. These results along with other information will help in the process of placing students in homerooms for next school year. Student results from MAP testing will be sent home to parents at the end of the school year.
We ask parents to keep Tuesday, May 17, 2022, open on your calendars for the Annual DuJardin Portfolio Night. This year's event will take place between 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm. Portfolio Night is an opportunity for students and families to visit the school and celebrate the efforts and accomplishments of the 2021-2022 school year. Portfolio Night is an Open House style event. Feel free to stop by DuJardin anytime between 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm. The Book Fair will also be at DuJardin the same evening.

Erin's Law
March 25th, 2022
Dear Parents,
Child abuse curriculum lessons, otherwise known as the state-mandated Erin’s Law, will once again be conducted in all K-5 classrooms to educate students on safe and unsafe touches, safe and unsafe secrets, and how to get away and tell a trusted adult. Lessons will teach children how to recognize child abuse, equip them with skills to reduce their vulnerability, and encourage them to report abuse. District 13 uses a curriculum entitled Kids In The Know that focuses on teaching the above-mentioned skills. The classroom lessons will be conducted in April and May.
As a parent, I would encourage you to discuss these subjects with your child. You may preview the Kids In The Know curriculum, by age level, by going to Kids In The Know . If you would rather not have your child participate in this instruction, please put your request in writing and send it to the school office attention Ms. Miller. If you have any questions about this or any other related topic, please do not hesitate to call me at 630-894-9200.
Sincerely,
Sarah Miller, MSW

SEL @ DuJardin
During the month of April, DuJardin will focus on the character trait, Accountability, as an entire school. We feel that accountability is a trait that students need to be successful in school and life. In order to #LeadLikeAJaguar, we must be accountable for our thoughts, words, and actions. This trait closely aligns with the Character Counts! Pillar of Responsibility. During the month, classrooms will introduce & define accountability as being responsible for your thoughts, words, and actions. Students have a chance to earn an Accountability Paw for demonstrating the character trait. The Accountability Paw will be placed in a drawing for weekly prizes and be recognized on morning announcements. There will also be a weekly read aloud by Mr. Haugens based on a book with an Accountability Theme. This weeks book: Weekly Read Aloud: Zach Apologizes:
Mr. Haugens visited all 1st - 5th grade classrooms the past two weeks to discuss Relationships, Responsibility/Accountability, & Regulation. During the classroom visits, students were asked to share their feelings related to how nice, kind, and respectful classmates are towards each other. In 4th & 5th grade classrooms, we dove a little deeper into student perceptions of their sense of belonging. Students were asked how much they felt valued as members of the school community. Classroom talks concluded with students making a promise to themselves and the classroom to help improve the overall climate.
