Sheridan Elementary News

Week of February 15-19, 2016

Message from Mrs. Bohler

Hope you all enjoyed such a beautiful weekend with your family!

We are looking forward to seeing you all at Parent Teacher Conferences this week at SES. Please make sure you contact your child's teacher if you cannot attend on Tuesday or Thursday, so they can make arrangements to accommodate your schedule. It is important for you to learn about your child's progress before moving on to the next group.

Have you visited the Book Fair this week? During these early years of your child's life, it is important for them to read and be exposed to a variety of books! The Book Fair offers a diverse group of books to reach the different topics students are interested in.

Watch for updates via Smore! Throughout the school year, we will spotlight students, teachers, families, as well as keep you well informed about what is happening at SES. We will share our newsletter via Twitter.

National Dental Month

On Wednesday, February 10, the PreK, kindergarteners, and 1st graders were visited by Dr. Deal to discuss dental hygiene.

This month-long national health observance brings together thousands of dedicated dental professionals, health care providers and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers and many others.

Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children to get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. To access free online resources that can help you with teaching children about good oral health, visit ADA.org, click on Public Programs and then National Children's Dental Health Month.

For tips on how to achieve optimal oral health, visit MouthHealthy.com.

Box Tops for Education

We are having a Box Top collection contest during the 2015-2016 school year. We will collect Box Tops from each class. The class who collects the most box tops will win an opportunity to PIE MRS. BOHLER in the Face!! There will be two winning classrooms; one for each semester.

Box Tops Tips:

Please trim all excess off of all labels prior to turning them in; it saves us time and shipping. Please use the attached collection sheet and either glue or tape the box top in the square. Each filled page of box tops will amount to $3.00 and will be counted toward your child’s class. Please check the expiration dates prior to sending in. Bonus Box Tops have to be kept separate from regular box tops. Please make sure your child’s name and teacher are printed on the collection sheet. If you need more collection sheets, contact the office or your child’s teacher.

Meet Mrs. Brown, "The Best Counselor Ever"

In honor of National Counselor Week (last week), we would like to take a minute to tell you about our school counselor, Melissa Brown. Before becoming the SES Counselor, Mrs. Brown taught kindergarten, 4th grade, and has been the Sheridan High School Counselor. She is a great asset to our school. Mrs. Brown is the voice of SES with leading students in the morning pledge, mission song, and celebrating birthdays. She always has a smile on her face and is there to help both students and our teachers.

Pop Tab Pandemonium: School Edition

Students, faculty and staff can collect pop tabs and compete against other schools for the title of 2015 Pop Tab Pandemonium School Edition Champion!

What does RMHCA do with the pop tabs?
We recycle tabs and the money we receive helps pay for families to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. We do not require our families to pay to stay, so this program alleviates some of the costs associated with housing 28 families each night.

Visit the site below to find out more about Ronald McDonald House.
