From the Principal...
January flew by quite quickly! It was wonderful to have all of our students back. Welcome to all of the new families who have joined our Jaguar Family! We look forward to the rest of this amazing year and getting to know you!
Family Game Night
February started off with a bang! Family Game Night was a tremendous success. It filled me with great joy to see so many families playing games together. Even though we ran out of pepperoni pizza :), the night was perfect! This idea came from our families from the survey you filled out in October at Parent/Teacher Conferences (yellow paper). We love the ideas, so keep them coming! We look forward to making Family Game Night an annual tradition!
Jackson is a proud AVID Certified Elementary School!
Did you know that Jackson was the first AVID Elementary School in District 11? 8 years ago, the Jackson staff made the decision to become an AVID school which meant that we were using new strategies to support student success across all grade levels and contents. While the strategies may look different in PreK to 5th grade, we all speak the same language. Students are learning how to take notes, organize their thoughts and belongings, and work collaboratively in all subject areas.
This January, we started a new focus: GROW (Get Ready to Learn, Review What you Know, Open your Mind, and Wonder and Ask). Students in all grades and classes discussed what it means to "GROW" while they are learning. Ask your child how they "GROW" in their classroom!
State Assessments are coming!
During the second, third, and fourth week of April, students in grades 3rd-5th will be taking their state assessments called CMAS. This is required by the state to be taken by all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. 3rd and 4th grade will take three assessments in Math and three in English Language Arts. 5th grade will take three Math, three English Language Arts, and three Science.
While state assessment results to do not measure the worth of a child, their intelligence, or their ability to love others, it is what the state, district, and school uses to measure how many grade level standards they have mastered since beginning school. Please know that we encourage students to do their best, no matter what they do. We are asking that you get them to school every day, on time, so they do not have to take their test separated from their classmates. The schedule will be sent out soon!
As always, please feel free to reach out via ClassDojo, by phone, email, or stop by if you have any questions, needs, comments, etc.!
Thank you and again, Happy New Year!
Sara Miller, Principal

Media Moments with Mrs. Sobecki
Media Moments February 2023
Kindergarten and 1st Grade classes are currently reading the Colorado Book Award nominee books. At this point we have read four books and the favorites are Itty Bitty Kitty Corn and Noman Didn’t Do It. We will keep reading new titles in February and I will let you know the final winner in March. Keep on reading!
Robotics Club is meeting during Lunch and Recess for 4th and 5th Graders. We started by using the Dash robots and using a programming language called Blockly. The students love getting the robots to follow their directions. Our junior programmers are doing great!
Kids Collect
I want to thank Hayley P for sharing her art collection in the Media Center. We still have openings for the display case for the rest of the school year, so please sign up with Mrs. Sobecki.
Future Holmes Middle School Opportunity
Dear Future Holmes Middle School Families,
Your student is invited to join us on an upcoming educational travel experience to Italy in Summer 2024!
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and I would love to have your student join me on this adventure.
Come hear all the details, including the itinerary, activities, academic opportunities, and the cost of our trip at our informational meeting on February 8th at 6:30 P.M.. The meeting will take place on Webex.
Please click here to register for the meeting ASAP to save your seat: https://bit.ly/3R4Fi0V.
There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity!
Thanks,
Mrs. Brown

7 Ways To Show Your Family Members You Love Them
- Eat Dinner Together. Sharing a meal with family members can build better relationships and create exceptional social skills.
- Gifts. Make cards or homemade crafts (lots of fun stuff at the Dollar store) for each other, family members or friends.
- Have A Good Time Together. Go for a walk/hike. Play a board game. Crank up the tunes and have a dance party.
- Apologize and Fix Your Mistakes. Never too late to say sorry.
- Share Certain Aspects of Your Life With Your Loved Ones. Tell your kids stories about fun things you did growing up and stories about your heritage/ancestors. Look at old photo albums.
- Hugs. Snuggles. They are never too old!
- Say Thank You. Tell your kids (and partner, parents etc.) how grateful you are for them. Tell them what you enjoy about them.

Counseling Corner with Mrs. Kisler
Hello Jackson Families!
Happy February! It has been an exciting time for me at Jackson as I have been building the school counseling program and getting to know the staff and students in our community. Since October, I have been entering classrooms to teach lessons on various topics that are related to academics, career pathways, and social/emotional topics. There have been and will be more opportunities for students to be in small groups with me each semester, as we wrapped up our Fall groups right before winter break.
My current school counseling lesson with our kindergarten through second graders is on the topic of Perseverance and what that means for us each day.
With our third through fifth graders, we are talking about Resilience and how to practice this in our daily lives.
National School Counseling Week is February 6th - 10th
This is a time for students to be reminded that they have a school counselor who is here to support them with their dreams, their future endeavors, and while they are here at Jackson.
