It's Friday!
It has been another great week at Three Lakes Middle School!!! The year is off to a phenomenal start! Your child should be settled into his/her classes and focused on working hard in and out of the classroom to be an exceptional student.
I would like for you to think about the conversations you have with your child about school at the end of the day. I know it's easy to ask, "How was school today?" Usually, you get answers such as, "Great," "Good," "Alright," etc. Next time you're tempted to ask that question, try asking:
- What’s the biggest difference between this year and last year?
- What was the best thing you did at school?
- What’s the best thing about your daily schedule?
- What was the best thing your teacher asked you to do in ____ today?
Positive questions encourage positive conversations. Also, asking positive questions gives your child a chance to express concerns. Negative questions tend to stop a conversation. Try these questions and see if they open up a meaningful conversation.
Have a great weekend!

Hello Gator Family! I am so excited to join the Three Lakes Family this year. My family moved from Royse City where I taught at the high school and middle school level. My husband is a firefighter for the City of Mesquite and I have four children who are all students in Tyler ISD. Aiden and Anna are at Three Lakes and Sam and Liam are at Jack Elementary. We are very grateful to be back in East Texas and can't wait to be part of the amazing Tyler community.

Tyler High School/Tyler Legacy High School Pantry Raid
Next Friday, September 3rd is the THS/TLHS Football Game at Rose Stadium. During the half time show the East Texas Food Bank will announce Tyler ISD’s efforts to raise meals for the needy. Over the past 30 years, the two high schools have raised over 1.7 million pounds of food to assist our community. This year both high school principals have partnered to set a goal to “Unite to Beat Ourselves”. They are asking every TISD campus to participate by either donating can food items or sending in online donations to the ETFB. Please donate here: tylerpantryraid.com.
At Three Lakes Middle School, students will receive a free dress pass if they donate 3 or more can food items.
Items will be collected Monday, August 30-Thursday, September 2. Items will be picked up the morning of September 3.
Student Dress Code
We are still noticing students out of compliance in regards to the student dress code policy. If you have any questions concerning dress code, please reach out to your child's assistant principal. You can find a copy of the student dress code policy below.

Attendance
Improving attendance at Three Lakes Middle School is a top priority this school year. There is a direct correlation between student attendance and school success, so encourage your students to attend school and discuss the importance of them being here daily.
Our attendance for the week is as follows:
Grade 6: 96.56%
Grade 7: 94.69%
Grade 8: 95.83%
Overall: 95.64%
Congratulations to our 6th graders for having the highest attendance this week!!! Continue motivating your students to attend school...it makes a difference!!!
Here are some helpful hints to help with attendance:
- Establish and stick to the basic routines (going to bed early, waking up on time, etc.) that will help your child develop the habit of on-time attendance.
- Talk to your child about why going to school every day is critical and important unless they are sick. If your child seems reluctant to go to school, find out why and work with the teacher, counselor, or administrator to get them excited about going to school.
- Come up with back up plans for who to turn to (another family member, a neighbor or fellow parents) to help you get your child to school if something comes up (e.g. another child gets sick, your car breaks down, etc.).
- Reach out for help if you are experiencing tough times (e.g. transportation, unstable housing, loss of a job, health problems) that make it difficult to get your child to school. Other parents, your child’s teacher, principal, social worker, school nurse, counselor, or community agencies can help you problem solve or connect you to a needed resource.
- If your child is absent, work with the teacher to make sure she or he has an opportunity to learn and make up for the academics missed.
