2018-2019 School Year: Volume 29: Week of April 8, 2019
Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
Spring is here.....Spring Fever is too!!
At last, spring has arrived! As you know, it is much harder to keep the Grandview students’ focus on academics when the beautiful weather is beckoning our attention. You, too, may be experiencing SPRING FEVER! However, to whatever extent you can, please continue to encourage your children to be attentive to their school work. The great strides students have made this year can be lost in the final months of school if the students lose their focus. We want to ensure that all of our students finish the school year strong and are continuing to make progress.
Speaking of progress, M-STEP and NWEA are on the horizon. 5th grade will be taking the M-STEP April 17, 18, 24, and 25. 3rd and 4th grade, you will take the M-STEP in May. Also, NWEA and the other end-of-the-year district assessments begin May 6th. There are 47 days left of school. That is a lot of time and the focus needs to be there, not matter what the weather states.
We are continuing to celebrate polite and respectful students, but we are beginning our knowledge of being Grandview students who have integrity. This is an important character attribute as it is someone who follows rules, is honest and plays fair. Our next principal breakfast is on Monday, April 15th. We will be celebrating respectful students.
Let's keep our focus and continue to have conversation with our students about their learning to help them to see that their learning is important know more than ever!! Lets have them show and validate a year's worth of learning!!! We can do it Grandview!!
Your Proud Principal,
Melissa Carruth, Ed.S

Safety First
- During the school day, no one can enter the building through any door, but the front door.
- Everyone needs to sign in and get a sticker if you wish to walk towards the classrooms during the school day. Staff indicated that they are unsure if the adults in the building have signed in and look to see the visitor stickers. I know that we are familiar faces to the office, but not all of the staff knows all of the faces, so please take the extra steps to sign-in.
- If you have a GSRP or Pre-school student, after dropping your little one off, please do not walk through the hallways. If you wish to get your other child to class, please walk around to the front and sign in. It seems like a silly extra step, but arrival and dismissal is very hectic and all adults should be identified.

Tardy
We have had a lot of students arriving late. Tardies start at 8:40 and will be tracked. If your child comes in after the class did the lunch count, then they will automatically get PB&J as their lunch choice. Lunch counts will not be finalized until after 8:40. If you know your child is going to be late, then please call in the tardy and select your child's lunch choice to ensure that they can get another choice. Our lunch counts are becoming very lopsided and we need to ensure that the children are getting the choice that they signed up for. Also we need our students on time for school!!

Bookflix for Grandview Families
The Michigan eLibrary did not renew their subscription to Bookflix. We found great value in this site for our children. Therefore, Grandview purchased a school subscription that allows teachers and students to use the following username and password to access Bookflix at home and at school. Please feel free to use this at home. The link is as follows.....
https://digital.scholastic.com/site/launch/bkflix?ucn=600063987
There is a link on the Library symbaloo and will be putting a link under the student links on the Clarenceville website.
Username: grandvw
Password: flix
If you click on the apple and book in the top right corner, it takes you to a Resources and Tools page where you can search for books, search by themes, running times and grade levels.
This is another way to engage your students with their learning at home.
Enjoy!!!
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
Meetings are underway for both of these great organizations. Girl Scouts will be meeting on Wednesdays and Boy Scouts will be meeting on Mondays at 6:30. Come join the fun!
Transportation Changes
Do not rely on just the office for transportation changes. It is important that you also put it in writing in an email to the teacher. If you alert the teacher and the office, chances are better that the message is delivered accurately. We have so many transportation changes at the end of the day that makes us uneasy that a mistake could occur. Please do not make a change after 3:00!!
