PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Families, Students, and Staff,
Today during Advisement, students were shown a slide with several images of the cartoon character, Shrek, to be used as a check-in exercise. One of those images was of Shrek made to look like Hitler. The teacher who was responsible for this lesson was horrified once she recognized that the image was included and immediately removed it. She also sent an apology to the students and staff, but I wanted to take this opportunity as the principal to tell the DHS community that trivializing a man like Hitler is unacceptable. Euphemisms like this downplay the genocide that was experienced by the Jewish community. Hitler was responsible for murdering millions of people during World War II and that should never be trivialized. As the DHS P.A.C.K., we are continuously working to create an environment where we are purposeful, accountable, connected and kind. Through Restorative Practices, we are striving to educate ourselves and our staff, acknowledge the harm done to and in our community, and work to repair our relationships. DHS values our Jewish community and I would like to issue an apology for any harm that has been experienced. If you or your student(s) would like to discuss this further, please let me know.

Host Homes, Trailers, and Trailer Drivers Needed! Homecoming is Friday, September 17th.
Our Bulldog tradition is for each class to build a float and have it driven in the school parade which will happen Friday afternoon before the game. The actual building of the float is done by the students in each grade and in order to do this we need a home for each class to host. We will need a home that could host about 25-30 students per 1.5 shift outside on Sunday, September 12th through Wednesday, September 15th between the hours of 5-8pm. We also will need space to store the trailer (which usually are about 6x8 ft). We will provide snacks, drinks, supplies, and chaperones. If you have a 6x8 ft trailer or a truck which could pull the trailer during the parade, please let us know.
Get back to us before Friday, September 3rd at 3:30 so we can move forward with planning. We can't do this without you!
Please email the following parents to indicate you can host, drive, help, etc :)

Bulldog Flags
Decatur Bulldog Boosters (DBB) is building excitement about the upcoming school year and the return to normalcy by selling Bulldog Flags so that the entire Decatur community can show our spirit.
A Bulldog Flag costs $40 or is free if you become a DBB Sponsor (at any level) or purchase a Family Member (or above).
These are durable, outside flags that measure approx. 3’x 5’ and can be attached to a flag pole, hung in a window, or displayed on a wall. All proceeds go to support 1000 student-athletes on 45 teams representing 14 sports at Decatur High School and Renfroe Middle School.
Purchase your flag at DecaturSwag.com, or go to decaturbulldogboosters.org for more information on DBB memberships and sponsorships. Let's line our streets with these flags and show everyone what Bulldog Nation is made of!
