Dear Parents,
This week our children have been exposed to a variety of activities, stories and songs that help support our understanding of who works at our school. We discussed how we could help each other in our family and our school. We had some visitors from our school come in to our class to talk about their job and how they can help us. The children took the opportunity to make comments and ask the visitors questions. Students were able to name the people who work in our school and explained how that person contributes to keep the school community safe and happy.
During our week we worked on describing shapes and spatial relationships by using geoboards, lids, and pattern blocks. In addition to this, we made triangles using play dough. They had a great time exploring the materials, using them in different ways and observing the results. In Literacy, the children used alphabet cards, foam and magnetic letters and to identify letters in their names. The also enjoyed listening to the Gingerbread man and Goldilocks story. Songs, rhymes and games were an important part of our daily routine as it gives us an opportunity to reinforce language development.

From the Library
Dear Parents:
BOOKS FOR YOUR CHILDREN
Scholastics and Baker Books
One of the important aspects of reading at home is that children enjoy what they read and away from the pressure of school and learning, they can immerse themselves in a book and just enjoy the pleasure of reading, or being read to. Enjoying books helps children develop their reading ability and builds the reading habit. This is why twice a year we send home the latest Scholastic and Baker Books catalogs which have a wide range of carefully selected children’s books for you and your family to choose from. Many of these books are newly published and are offered at below the recommended retail price (RRP).
When you order, the school receives a minimum of 20% of the value of orders in free books so by purchasing your books from the catalogue you are also helping your child’s class or school library. This year we will also use a portion of these rewards to support our Social Service Program in the Elementary school and fund a class library for a public school.
This week students will receive on paper the Scholastic catalog and the Baker Books Catalogs Book Zone and Funfare will be available online. The students get very excited about the catalogs and we hope that you will browse through them with your child, choosing some of the excellent books that are offered. With these book clubs you may take advantage of selections by experienced editors of the best titles available, delivered right to your child at school.
