THE THREE HOOTS

HOMEWORK THIS WEEK!
Our homework for the next two weeks is gong to look a little different than normal. There will be no spelling this week, we will continue with our regular spelling list on December 5th. We would like you to continue to work towards meeting your November Reading Calendar goal. In addition we are sending home some games to reinforce their multiplication math facts.
This week we have been working on mastering 0’s, 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s. We have attached three different games that we played throughout the week to help build understanding of these facts. Our hope is that you will spend time playing and practicing these math facts and have a little fun while doing it!
Here are some tips to make the games fun and productive for your child.
- When your child brings home a new game, have him or her explain how to play the game. We will play the games at school before they are sent home. Directions will be sent with games just in case your child can’t remember how to play.
- Some games might need a spinner. I will send home the spinner form, and you will just need a paperclip and a pencil to make it a spinner. Your child will show you how to do this.
- It can be hard to learn new facts. It is okay to help your child as you play the games. Help might include giving him or her a multiplication chart or reminding him or her of answers. Each time your child looks up or hears an answer, he or she is getting one more review of the fact! It might also be a good idea to have your child write down all of the facts for a group (e.g., ×4 facts) before starting the game and using that list of facts, instead of a multiplication chart, to locate any unknown facts.
- After playing the game, talk with your child about which facts are easy for him or her to remember and which are hard. You can practice the harder facts in the car or while waiting in line at the grocery store.
- Learning math facts can be frustrating. Keep the atmosphere positive and encouraging. If your child becomes frustrated or upset, stop the activity and let me know so I can support him or her in class.

After Thanksgiving break, we will return to science. We will be learning about life cycles. And speaking of life cycles, our salmon eggs should hatch soon! The students are anxiously waiting!!

PLEASE DRESS YOUR CHILD FOR THE WEATHER
With the weather quickly changing, it is important that the students dress appropriately each day. We go out for recess daily. Please be sure that your child is dressed warmly for the day. Please label your child’s snow pants, coats, etc. with their first and last name. Thank You!
Holiday Fun
In December we will be making a holiday gift for you. We would appreciate it if everyone could bring in $5.00 to help pay for the cost of it. Please have this money in by December 2nd. If this is a hardship at this time pease let us know so that we can make special accommodations.
HOMEWORK
Homework was handed out today and is due back on the next Wednesday.
In addition to weekly homework, we will also require a monthly reading calendar. Reading calendars will be due at the beginning of each month. Each month your child will be required to read a set amount of minutes. November calendars went home on the second and reading goal for this month is 150 minutes! Reading calendars will be due on or before December 2nd.
iPad Reminders:
*Find a safe location where the iPad can be housed each time it is home and not being used.
*The iPad is an educational tool, even though the school has a strong blocker, you should ALWAYS be aware of what your child is doing on the iPad.
