A FEW REMINDERS
- Please remember to drop students off after 7:20.
- Please use the bus circle for 2nd grade student drop off.
- Students eating breakfast should be here by 7:40.
- Students need to be in class by 8:00 a.m. to avoid being counted tardy. A medical note is needed to excuse the tardy.
- Remember to use early dismissal for emergencies.
- Please send a note for all transportation changes.
Morning Arrival
Please remember, all students riding in cars should be dropped off through the car line. If you need to walk your child in, please park in a parking spot and not in the grass or under the trees. Please do not walk your child through the car line. This hinders traffic and creates a potentially dangerous situation. After the first two weeks of school students are expected to walk to class by themselves. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our car line moving smoothly and providing a safe arrival for our students. Anyone going past the office must check-in with their drivers license before going down the hallway.
Afternoon Dismissal
We ask that you please stay in the car line during dismissal to keep our children safe and make the process go as smoothly as possible. Please do not come into the office for dismissal of your child.
As a reminder, please remember that all early dismissals for appointments should be before 2:00 as we are getting ready for car/bus dismissals after this time. Please try to reserve early dismissals for the occasional appointment only so that we may minimize distractions in the classroom. Also, please get an excuse from the doctor/dentist so that the early dismissal can be excused. Thank you for your cooperation!
Some Reminders From Nurse Carol:
- Before any prescription medications can be given at school, you must have a form signed by your child's doctor. (Forms are available from the nurse.)
- Non-prescription medications require a form signed by the parent/guardian.
- Please refer to the Concrete website under the "Parent" tab and then health services for more information.
BE FANTASTIC
Based on Ron Clark’s Essential 55, our BE FANTASTIC program encourages excellent behavior and citizenship throughout the day for our students. A different essential is highlighted each week and classes are awarded a ticket when they display these essential characteristics. Students have the opportunity to earn tickets during related arts, in the hallway, and in the cafeteria.
When classes earn 10 tickets, they are exchanged for a cricket to hang outside of the classroom. At the end of each nine weeks, any class that earns 10 crickets is rewarded with a special treat. The homeroom from each grade level that earns the most tickets receive an additional prize. Celebrations are scheduled at the end of each nine weeks, with our first celebration being held on October 26th.
BE FANTASTIC and earn those tickets!
A NOTE FROM OUR READING COACH
Welcome back to school! I hope everyone’s new school year is off to a great start! Parents, there are many small things you can do right away to make a big difference in your child’s reading growth this year. Here are a few tips:
Establish a routine. Set aside a time to read with your child each day. Make it work for your family. It could be before bed, after dinner, right after school, etc. Anytime is fine...just make time!
Give your child a special reading spot. The special spot should be free from distractions. It should be quite, comfortable, and have easily accessible books nearby.
Find everyday opportunities to read. Reading is a necessary real life skill! Have your child read road signs, billboards, cereal boxes, restaurant menus, etc.
Surround your child with books. Studies show that children who are constantly surrounded by books perform better in school than their peers who don’t. Try to make sure there is age-appropriate reading material around the house, on their devices, in the car and on-hand anytime your child has to wait, such as at the doctor’s office.
Be a good reading partner. Reading is more fun when you’re not forced to do it. Take turns reading with your child and be patient and encouraging when they come across a word they don’t know. Make reading time a fun time to relax, unwind and bond after a long day.
Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you and your family this school year.

"Character Camp Out" with Mrs. Jones and Oliver!
Welcome to Camp Concrete! This year Mrs. Jones and Oliver will visit classrooms each month for a Character Camp Out! The students will have fun as they discuss traits to help build good character. Mrs. Jones will have monthly celebrations for the students who display the trait of the month. Also, each week Mrs. Jones and Oliver will spotlight "Happy Campers" on the Friday news show. This will be students that are caught by a staff member displaying a positive attitude and helping others!
