Oak Ridge Connection

Our Mission:
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Thank you for another great week. We had a very busy week. Report cards came home, we had many students at field trips and we had our second grade concert. It was great to see so many people in and out of the building. Next week, conferences begin. Please make sure you double check your conference time. Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jason Parrott
News and Notes
Dress your Children for Winter Weather
Please send your children to school with a warm coat, boots, snowpants, hat, mittens. The children will go out for lunch recess every day unless it is between 15 and 20 degrees factoring in the wind chill. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Parent Series
The Royal Oak PTA Council and Royal Oak Middle School are sponsoring a five part Parent Workshop Series. You are welcome to attend the entire series or simply the sessions that are of interest to you. The workshops are free. Erin's Law and HAVEN Presentations
You should have received a parent letter home regarding an upcoming presentation by HAVEN. HAVEN is a non-profit organization in Oakland County that specializes in counseling advocacy and education to prevent sexual abuse. HAVEN presented to the Royal Oak School Board about the program that they will be bringing to the schools. To see that presentation please click on the following link:http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/70819213. The presentation begins at the 6:30 mark of the meeting.
The Royal Oak School District chose HAVEN to provide these presentations for us because of their expertise in the field and to satisfy the requirements under ERIN's Law.“Erin’s Law” requires that all public schools in each state implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program which teaches:
- Students in grades preK – 12th grade, age-appropriate techniques to recognize child sexual abuse and tell a trusted adult
- School personnel all about child sexual abuse
- Parents & guardians the warning signs of child sexual abuse, plus needed assistance, referral or resource information to support sexually abused children and their families.
Presentations by HAVEN will take place November 24th, at Oak Ridge. If you would like to review the materials ahead of time, you may receive copies at the Board Office. For additional resources, please look below:
Erin’s Law is named after childhood sexual assault survivor, author, speaker and activist Erin Merryn, who is the founder and President of Erin’s Law. Erin's Law was passed in Michigan in 2013.

HAVEN is Oakland County’s only comprehensive program for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, HAVEN provides shelter, counseling, advocacy and educational programming to nearly 30,000 people each year.
Front Circle Drop Off
Please make sure you pull all the way to the front door when dropping off students in the morning. This will create more room for the cars behind you and alleviate congestion. Thank you.
FLU VACCINATION PROGRAM- DECEMBER 1ST
The Flu vaccination clinic has been scheduled for DECEMBER 1, 2015. We will keep all of your Patient Consent Forms. If you are not interested in having your child receive the FluMist vaccine here at school please call the school office and we will remove your consent form. The flu is a serious illness. The best way to prevent the flu is through vaccination. Flu season usually peaks in February so December is not too late to be vaccinated.
Thank you for your continued support.

From the desk of the Student Senate
We are pleased to announce that we have inaugurated the 2015-2016 Student Congress. We had so many students interested and were pleased with the effort that everyone put in that we wanted to give each student the opportunity to be a leader at Oak Ridge. In order to make this happen, we had to change the legislative body from one house to two.The Student Senate is no more and the Student Congress has been formed. We are looking forward to an exciting year of making our community a better place.
Sincerely,
Oak Ridge Student Senate
