What's Going On?
Star Testing
1st-3rd grade testing will take place in computer class from 3/23-4/8. If you have any students that still need to complete the reading or math assessments after 4/8, you will need to test them on your own time (not to be done during computer class). The Star testing window will be closed on April 15. (MAP testing will be going on in both computer labs from 4/11-4/29)
Retention
I will be asking for the names of your students that will possibly be retained, later this week. This is something that you need to discuss with a student's parents, if you haven't already.
Teacher of the Month
TOM ballots will be put in your mailbox today. Please fill it out with a teacher that you think has gone above and beyond and deserves to be the March Teacher of the Month!
DUE: FRIDAY, APRIL 1 IN THE FRONT OFFICE!!!!
Pull-Out Schedules
As we begin 4th quarter, we want to make sure we finish the year strong! In order for this to happen, we need to work as a team to give each student the chance to succeed. Pull-out teachers have been given a schedule to follow and resources to use with students. However, if you have something in particular you would like them to do or work on with your student(s), please communicate that with them.
End of the Year Hangout
You all should have received the EOY Hangout invitation. This is just a fun get together to celebrate that MAP testing is complete and another successful year is coming to an end. We will provide food and drinks for all staff members that join us; therefore, MAKE SURE TO RSVP!
MAP IS 2 WEEKS AWAY!!!!
April Character Trait
“I respect the laws of my country and the rules of the school.”
PLEASE PLEASE hand out those character cards, if you catch a student showing good character. (shoot me an email if you need more)
*There are links below with some ideas/resources that you could use to go with teaching about citizenship.
This is the last full month for it!
Happy birthday Tannia!!!
Praise vs. Encouragement
Have you noticed yourself giving more praise or encouragement? Have you tried to give more encouragement? What has been the students reaction or response?
ALL human beings require encouragement.
SOME human beings desire praise.
Praise: focuses on the person or product
Encouragement: focuses on the process or effort
*THESE DO NOT MEAN THE SAME*
Praise:
1. a reward given for a completed achievement
2. tells students they've satisfied the demands of others
3. connects students' work with their personal growth
Encouragement:
1. an acknowledgment of effort
2. helps students evaluate their own performance
3. focuses on the strength of the work, helping students see and feel confident
about their own ability
You received examples of praise and encouragement messages in your mailbox last week!
