Learning in Action Last Week
January 3, 2023
Good Morning Memorial Families,
We hope that the holidays brought much joy and peace to your busy lives and that everyone enjoyed some down time in between all of the festivities that this time of year brings. As we head into a new year and the month of January, we are excited for all that awaits us.
January is the most magical time of year, in particular for our youngest students. This is typically the time of year when we start to see exponential growth in reading, writing, and math skills. Students begin to put the building blocks together with their learning and they begin to do things that they couldn't do before. We hope that you will begin to notice your children really taking off with their skills over the next month or two. While the New England weather is not great outside this time of year, the learning inside the school is warm and bright.
We had some hopeful children last month when we received a dusting of snow. Many students began coming in each day with their winter snow play gear. For those of you who are new to Memorial this year, when there is snow to play in, we do allow children on the field to enjoy it. If your child would like to play in the snow, you should pack a bag with snow pants, boots, a har, gloves or mittens, and of course a winter coat. Many families opt to just keep those items in a bag to bring back and forth each day. As a reminder, as long as the temperature "feels like" 20 degrees or above, we get the kids outside. The fresh air does wonders for their bodies this time of year and they really do need the exercise each day.
We look forward to our fourth grade chorus singing on the ice at this Friday night's Worcester Railer's game. If you would like to purchase tickets and join us there, use this link. The Clough chorus will be there as well, as this will be a "Mendon-Upton Takeover Night" at the DCU center.
Have a wonderful week ahead!
Warmly,
Lauren and Wendy
Night at the Railers!
Want to support your 4th grade chorus friends?
Come see them sing the National Anthem and more along with the Clough 4th grade chorus at the Worcester Railers Game on January 6th at 7pm.
Tickets are only $15 and proceeds will help support the PTO 4th grade send off.
See attached flyer -
The Stanley Cup will be at the DCU center the night of the game!
We would also like to offer the high five tunnel experience to any child not performing before the game. Basically, the kids will line up in our tunnel area and greet the players before they get on the ice. Meet at the elevator for 6:40, you will be taken down to the tunnel.
