Summer 2020 - New Students
Helpful Info. for Students and Families New to PCS
Welcome to PCS!
As I am sure you are aware, much about next year is still unknown; the PCS Reopening Task force is working closely with state and county officials to ensure that we have the most up-to-date information and resources to guide our work. The safety of PCS students, staff, and families is our primary concern. We also remain focused on providing an equitable and academically rich program for all of our students.
As a new member of the PCS community your ideas are important to our planning. You are invited to join us for a Reopening Input Meeting on Thursday, June 25 at 6:00pm via videoconference. (This meeting will be recorded and posted on our website for those unable to attend.)

Summer Assignments
PCS strongly believes in the importance of students maintaining academic progress throughout the summer break. Research has shown that students who aren’t engaged in academic pursuits over the summer tend to lose ground academically. In addition, this allows classes to get a head start in the new school year. Summer assignments are designed to be thought-provoking and provide a common foundation for students. We know that students have busy schedules over the summer, so assignments are intended to keep kids’ brains active while not having an unreasonable time requirement. Our advice, as always, is to start early and spread the assignments out over the summer for maximum enjoyment.
Summer assignments are posted on the PCS website. Please note that not all classes have summer assignments, so it is important to check for each class individually.
Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you in August!
Pre-Algebra & Algebra 1 Summer Assignments - Prodigy Math
This summer, Algebra and Pre-algebra students will be asked to engage in summer practice with the online program Prodigy Math. In this game-based practice system, students play the role of young wizards who set out on quests to battle monsters and earn powers. Moving through the game, students will solve math problems to review important content and skills. Prodigy will self-adjust to find questions to meet students at their ability level.
Instructions for registering with Prodigy Math are posted on the PCS Summer Assignments webpage. Once registered, we are hoping Pre-Algebra and Algebra students will practice on Prodigy Math for a total of 20 minutes per week.
