The Roadrunner
Ben Franklin Elementary School
August 2019
Dear Families,
Welcome "back-to-school!" Our favorite time of year at Ben Franklin is seeing all of our students and families return, plus meeting the new families who have enrolled. We look forward to seeing all of you at our Open House on Tuesday, August 20th from 4:00pm-6:00pm. At Open House you will have the opportunity to visit with your child's teacher, deposit money in your child's lunch account, and drop off school supplies.
The first day of school is August 26th and starts at 8:20am. We know everyone is excited for the first day of school. Please do not arrive too early as the teachers will still be busy preparing to build relationships and for instruction. As in the past, children are welcome to come for breakfast starting at 7:40am. Doors 12, 13, and 14 (where students should enter in the morning) will not be unlocked until 7:40am for those children eating breakfast. We ask that your child remain in your car until 7:40am. All children who enter the building prior to 8:00am, will be directed to go to breakfast. Children who plan to join us for the Morning Reading program can enter the building at 8:00am. Please remind your child to stand in a line outside the door close to where his/her grade level should enter (listed below). You will receive a list of reading locations for each grade level at Open House. Please visit with your child so they know where to go for reading. Staff members will invite the children into the building at 8:00am for reading. Children are not allowed to play outside on the blacktop or playground before or after school as there is no adult supervision. Attending breakfast or reading is a privilege. Due to limited supervision in the morning, we have to be strict on the guidelines so all students can have an enjoyable start to their day. If your child has difficulty following the rules of our breakfast/reading program, you will be asked to make alternative plans in the morning. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
Kindergarten students= Enter door 14
1st/2nd grade students= Enter door 13
3rd/4th/5th grade students= Enter door 12
If your child is not participating in the Morning Reading program or breakfast, he/she should stand in a line on the blacktop and wait patiently in line by their assigned door until the first bell rings at 8:20am.
For those of you who still may not have met me yet, I invite you to stop by the office to introduce yourself. If we did meet before, please do not be offended if I need help recalling your name (I met a lot of families the past two years :)). I am excited to get the 2019-2020 school year started~ the staff and children at Ben Franklin are simply the best!
Sincerely,
Leslie Bjelde
