Recognizing Kalina Barbosa
Kalina Barbosa, a Digital Learning Academy (DLA) student, was recognized during the Board Meeting.
When Kalina was in eighth grade at Rey Reynolds Middle School, her parents enrolled her in the Pasco Innovative eXperiences and e-Learning (PIXeL) program through PSD’s Digital Learning Academy. PIXeL is a program where students in grades K-8 experience 80% synchronous instruction (teacher-led learning at a specific time) and 20% asynchronous (learning that can take place any time).
Currently, Kalina is a freshman at Chiawana High School where she participates in the Internet Pasco Academy of Learning Program (iPAL). iPAL is a program for students in grades K-12 and is 100% asynchronous, meaning it’s all remote with parent coached instruction. Although she is enrolled in iPAL, Kalina goes to Chiawana High School to enjoy aspects of an in-person high school experience such as lunch, PE, and soccer, while completing her instruction in an environment that best supports her success.
Pasco Digital Learning Academy

The Board learned more about the DLA programs and ask questions by participating in roundtable activities where they visited four tables to meet with teachers from the four different DLA programs.
