Wednesday's Words
May 26, 2021
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Each spring one of our most important and challenging tasks is the development of new class lists that are balanced and allow all students to receive the instruction they require to learn and grow. Teachers and staff members take this process very seriously and put a great deal of time and effort into creating strong classroom communities of learners. Many different factors are considered during placement including students’ academic needs, social and emotional development, peer relationships and group dynamics. As a result, we are not able to accept or honor requests for specific teachers.
We recognize that students can be anxious about the beginning of a new school year, especially as we return to a more traditional school model following a year of hybrid and remote instruction. In order to try to eliminate some of that worry, we will be notifying students of their new teacher and classroom assignments during the last week of school. Our principals and administrative team are evaluating ways to support students as they transition and will be sending more information out to families in the next week.
Please be aware, that while classroom assignments are intended to be final - exceptional circumstances sometimes arise such as unexpected enrollment changes, maternity leaves or staff resignations, that could require changes to be made. If any changes need to be made to a child’s class placement, parents will be notified directly. While this is unlikely, we want to be sure all parents understand it is a possibility.
We look forward to the final weeks of the school year and to sharing in the many special celebrations that have been planned. Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Ingrid N. Allardi
Superintendent, Norfolk Public Schools
