Kindergarten Transition
The annual Kindergarten Transition event was held last Wednesday. We welcomed 30 new kindergarten students. The new Trombly Terriers had an opportunity to spend time with one of the current teachers and received a backpack full of goodies. We are excited to have had that many new students attend the event. We look forward to seeing them again later in August at our kindergarten open house.
A special thank you to the volunteers who greeted the new families at the door and assisted them in making the day a great one.

Food Allergy Awareness Week - May 13-17
Food Allergy Awareness Week
According to Food Allergy Research and Education, there are an estimated 15 million Americans who have food allergies. Included in that 15 million are approximately 6 million children under age 18. That equates to roughly two students in every classroom. Many of those children are allergic to more than one type of food.
It is hard for the average person to comprehend not being able just pick an item off a menu or having to worry where the food was packaged due to cross contamination.
At Trombly we have approximately, 10% of our student population allergic to a food item. The most common one is nuts which includes tree nuts and peanuts. However, we do have students allergic to wheat, corn, dairy, eggs, lentils, gluten, peas and sesames.
As you can imagine, navigating food choices or sharing of treats is very difficult when there are multiple students allergic to a variety of things. So, we at Trombly want to help provide a safe place for all students, So, several years ago we made a decision to move away from treats in classroom and in particular birthday treats. We are reminding families to adhere to our decision because we want all kids to be safe. No child has made the decision to be allergic to food.

Student Leadership Team collecting Pop Tabs
Little things can have a big impact!
The Trombly Student Leadership Team is collecting pop tabs in support of
What: The tab of an aluminum can is pure aluminum unlike the rest of the can,
which contains paint and residue. Pop tabs are small and convenient to
collect. Pop tabs can come from pop cans, soup cans, canned fruits and
veggies and even pet food cans. It takes between 1,000 to 1,500 pop
tabs to make one pound of aluminum, Ronald McDonald House Charities
can get between 30 and 75 cents for one pound of pop tabs.
How: Please use the attached plastic bag to collect pop tabs and bring them to
school. Each classroom will have a container to collect them in and we will
be weighing them weekly.
So spread the word! Let your family and friends know their small pop tabs can make a big difference.
- Thank you from the Trombly Student Leadership Team!
Leader in Me - Habit #7 - Sharpen the Saw
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw.
We are learning about Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. Once there was a man who was sawing down a tree and not making much progress. When asked why he didn’t stop sawing to sharpen his saw, he answered that he was too busy sawing.
Habit 7 reminds us that we are more productive when we are in balance; body, brain, heart, and soul. If one area is being ignored or overused, the remaining three areas will feel the results. A good analogy for children is: a car needs all four tires and as leaders of themselves, they need to take care of all four parts.
Thank you for your partnership in reinforcing your child’s leadership skills.
Camp Invention is Returning to GPPS!
In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF), Brownell Middle School is pleased to offer the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention® program to children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. It’s an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Children work together to create solutions to real-world problems and build critical 21st-century skills while rotating through several high-energy, hands-on modules. The week begins on June 24, 2019 with Caitlin Kefgen serving as Director of the ALL-NEW 2019 program, Supercharged!
Activities give participants the opportunity to explore, discover and achieve while having fun!
Local educators facilitate program modules and enthusiastic high-school students serve as Leadership Interns, ensuring that one staff member is in place for every eight children.
Every registration includes a complimentary Camp Invention t-shirt. Availability is limited, so visit www.invent.org/camp or call 800-968-4332 to secure your child’s spot today!
