Spring 2021 Missouri Assessment Program (MAP testing)
It’s hard to believe, but the end of the 2020-2021 school year is just around the corner. It is important to maintain our momentum and focus throughout this final home stretch. Our teachers and students are diligently focusing on curriculum and grade-level expectations to ensure that we finish the year on a high note. We appreciate all of your efforts in supporting this journey to excellence!
Throughout the month of May, Lakeview students in Grades 3-6 will participate in the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP). MAP is one way we measure student achievement, as well as our progress with curricular and state goals and standards. The MAP Grade-Level Assessment will be administered online. Our MAP schedule/window will extend from May 3- May 21. Please refer to your child's classroom newsletter (in April) for more detailed information about your child's testing schedule.
Please help our students shine by making sure they get plenty of rest each night and have a healthy breakfast each day. We also ask that you ensure that your child arrives at school each day on time, and we kindly suggest that you avoid scheduling appointments during testing hours. Finally, we recommend that you talk to your child about doing his or her best on the test, but not to the extent that he or she is worried or stressed. This is not a test for which students study; it is a chance for them to show what they know!
Testing Dates:
3rd Grade- May 3- May 7
4th Grade- May 17- May 21
5th Grade- May 10- May 14
6th Grade- May 10- May 14
End of the Year Activities and Celebrations
6th Grade BBQ- At the end of each school year, we celebrate and honor our 6th-grade students who will be moving onto middle school next year. This event will take place on Friday, May 28 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. We are happy that we are still able to hold this event. Unfortunately, parent volunteers will not be allowed to attend this year. We will be asking 6th-grade parents for food and drink donations for this event. More information to come...
End of the Year Clap-Out- Another long-standing LVE tradition, the end-of-the-year "Clap-Out", will be scheduled for our final day of the school year, Thursday, June 2. Typically, we invite our 6th-grade parents to join us for this celebration. Unfortunately, due to visitor restrictions this year, we are unable to invite parents to participate in this event. We are working on plans to live-stream this event so parents can still be a part of this tradition.
Field Day- Field Day will take place on Tuesday, June 1. Students in grades K-2 will participate in field day activities in the morning, while students in grades 3-6 will participate in their field day activities in the afternoon. If we were to be rained out on June 1, the following day, June 2, will serve as our alternate date for this event. Again, we unable to invite parents to volunteer for this event due to visitor restrictions throughout the District.

LVE Library Summer Check-Out
Students in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to check out up to five books from Lakeview Library for summer reading. Students will need to turn in a signed permission slip form by May 21 to participate. All books will be due back to Lakeview at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. In addition, 6th-grade students will have the opportunity to request books from Wentzville Middle School for summer reading. Information will be shared with 6th-grade students during their ELA class with Mrs. James. Please contact our librarian, Jenny Cook at jennifercook@wsdr4.org if you have any questions.
Six Flags Read to Succeed Update
During the 2019-2020 school year we had many students participate in the Read to Succeed program and earned a ticket for Six Flags. Tickets were distributed with the supply pick up at the end of the previous school year. Six Flags has extended the expiration date for any unused tickets. So, if you haven't used your ticket, your ticket is now valid through August 31, 2021. Please contact our librarian, Mrs. Cook if you have any questions at jennifercook@wsdr4.org.
WSD Meal Distribution Update
The District continues to provide free meals for all students through June 30, 2021 or until available federal funding runs out. The meals are being provided regardless of eligibility as a result of the extension of waivers by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) related to the Seamless Summer Option program. This includes children ages 1-18 who reside in the Wentzville School District boundaries but are not enrolled in a WSD school. For more information please contact the Child Nutrition Office at 636-327-3858 or click here

Virtual Academy Updates, May 2021
Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU!
Families have rearranged work schedules and recruited grandparents and neighbors to assist our students. Kitchens and living rooms and bedrooms have become offices and classrooms, couches and kitchen tables have become desks, and we've all had to persevere through power outages, internet connectivity issues, and even tears. This hasn't been easy.
But the good news is that our kids have learned and grown in ways we won't ever be able to measure or capture, and in some ways that we can. This is a tribute to our staff but also the support network our Virtual Lions have outside of school. We cannot thank you enough for all you've done to support our students this year.
We look forward to seeing many of you back in person next year. I am sure some of you will continue in VIrtual Academy as well. Just know that regardless, your child(ren) will be loved and cared for by our Lakeview staff, and our V.A. team is grateful for your involvement this year.
Sincerely,
LVE Admin Team (Mr. Holler, Mrs. Hanks, and Mr. Johnson)
VA Team (Mrs. Hoffman, Ms. Rains, Ms. Bextermueller, Ms. Solari, Ms. Schlichter, Ms. Michalek, and Mrs. Volling)
End of Year Supply Returns
We will also be collecting Chromebooks, power cables, and other loaned district technology. Stay tuned for details on what this return will look like. We obviously do not want to collect these too early as they are essential supplies for many Virtual Academy families.
MAP Testing for Virtual Academy Students
For students in Ms. Solari's, Ms. Schlichter's, or Mrs. Volling's classes only -
We will be running two sessions for MAP testing. Please send students with:
- Their district Chromebook and power cable (if they use a district device)
- A book (preferably fiction, as there are limitations on what sort of non-fiction/reference materials can be in the room during testing)
- A peanut/tree-nut free snack
- If your child uses a personal device for his/her Virtual Academy work, then we will provide a district device they can use here
If your child has a Smartphone, Cell Phone, or SmartWatch, these devices will need to be left in your child's backpack and cannot be on your child's person during testing. This guidance applies to our staff as well. The only exception is if your child requires an app to check blood sugar or other medical needs
AM Session:
- Please drop your child off at 9am in front of the building in our first parent pickup carpool lane (nearest the building). Your child will meet his/her teacher in our cafeteria (which has an exterior door near the carpool lane) and will accompany his/her teacher to class. On the way, she will point out where the clinic and restrooms are for students who've not been to LVE in awhile (or ever).
- Please pick your child up at noon in front of the building (where you dropped off). You (or whomever is picking up) may be asked to show an I.D.
- If your child is carpooling, please notify your child's teacher who is picking up so we can document your consent to have your child ride home with another adult.
PM Session
- Please drop your child off at 1pm in front of the building in our parent pickup carpool lane. Your child will meet his/her teacher in our cafeteria (which has an exterior door near the carpool lane) and will accompany his/her teacher to class. On the way she will point out where the clinic and restrooms are for students who've not been to LVE in awhile (or ever).
- Please pick your child up at 3:45 in front of the building, utilizing the second car lane (the one closer to the parking lot). You (or whomever is picking up) may be asked to show an I.D. If you arrive earlier than this, you will likely get stuck in our parent pickup lane.
- If your child is carpooling, please notify your child's teacher who is picking up so we can document your consent to have your child ride home with another adult.
- We will also have Chautauqua parents coming and picking up their children throughout this time. Please be respectful of their traffic.
Reporting Absences for Virtual Academy Students
You may contact your child's teacher directly for "make up" assignments and work expectations.
