Courageous Leaders

By Basia Bibbo

Leaders who exemplify courage as a trait are fixed on what they believe, and they will fight or lead what they believe in no matter what stands in their way. As long as they are confident in themselves, can handle fear, and loyal and respectful to others, they will succeed as a leader.

Galileo Galilei was apart of the scientific revolution and was the one who come to the conclusion from his findings, that the sun indeed was the center of the universe and not the earth. Everyone doubted his findings because at the time they believed that man was the center of the universe. Galileo was even arrested for the teachings of what he discovered and yet he still stuck with what he believed in no matter what other people said. He has courage in himself, and the few people who followed his beliefs, too. Because of Galileo's courageous doings, his findings have shaped the scientific community, and he his conclusion was indeed correct all along.

Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks was one of the most influential and successful leaders in the mass movements against racial segregation in history, and her courageous actions have had a massive impact in our society today. Saying "no" and sticking her ground against a white man showed her braveness and courageousness in the society she lived in. If it wasn't for her sticking her ground and fighting for what she believed in, our world would still be fighting racism as strong as it was back in the 1950's. By going against the law, Rosa Parks successfully showed her passion against racism, and courage in herself and the others who supported her.

Abby Womach

Recently there has been a major controversy between FIFA and the women of the United States Women's National Team, along with many other Women's National Teams. FIFA decided to make it so all of the Women's teams have to play on turf instead of grass fields like the men. Abby is one of the major names involving this dispute because she is fighting against both FIFA and the Canadian Soccer Association to get this problem fixed for her and her fellow players. Because the turf is extremely dangerous to play on, and only the women are being forced to play in it, she is courageously fighting against a clear example of gender discrimination. Although she is risking her role in the soccer community, she is showing a great deal of courageousness for fighting for what she believes in not only for herself, but for all of the other women, too.
