Message from Ms. Thompson

We hope you are soaking up the summer days. We have enjoyed seeing Bear Cubs and their families during our Popsicles with the Principals Events. You have a few more opportunities to interact with staff members and students.

Popsicles with the Principals Dates:

Kinlaw Park on Thursday, July 14th from 6:00-7:00

High Bridge Park on Wednesday, July 20th from 5:30-6:30

Classroom Teacher Introduction letters were mailed on Monday, July 11th. We hope that you receive those quickly. Some staff members may connect with you on Dojo prior to the start of the school year. We have one 3rd grade classroom position that we are working to fill, so we will send the introduction letter as soon as the new teacher is hired and has his/her Jessamine County email.

As August approaches, we will share further details about Back to School Open House and the possibility of walking your student to class the first few days of school. We hope to invite visitors and volunteers back into the building this school year, but will have heightened safety protocols regarding the check in process. As soon as we learn more about those expectations from the district level, we will communicate with families.

Please make sure you read more about our Transportation Form Updates. We are making some minor changes to ensure safety and efficiency during the arrival and dismissal process. We are asking that every student have a transportation form on file for the 2022-2023 school year. We will have a transportation booth at Open House on August 8th to gain additional information about bus stops and times as well.

Please continue reading this month's edition of the Bear Cub Bulletin to learn more about family events and upcoming opportunities to connect with our school and community.

Our office ours this summer will be Monday-Friday 9:00-1:00. If you need to set up an appointment, you can call us at (859) 858-3134 or you can email me and I will make sure someone is in the office to support you.

Email: monica.thompson@jessamine.kyschools.us

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Transportation Forms for ALL Students

We are working on our arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure student safety and efficiency. We have new car tags this school year. We are not assigning every child a car tag number. If your child is not a car rider on a regular basis, we will not issue a car tag. You can call the office and make the transportation change if you need your child to be a car rider on the rare occasion. We will have bus, walker, and after school tags that will be color coded so that all staff members can help in the dismissal process.

Please complete the Transportation Form for the 2022-2023 school year. We understand that circumstances and plans change, but this will give our staff an opportunity to begin preparing for the first day of school.

We will offer a few dates prior to Back to School Open House on Monday, August 8th, for your family to pick up car tags. We will share those dates on Dojo, Facebook, and Instagram.

Preventing the Summer Slide

Help your child find unique ways to engage in hands-on, mind-on learning this summer. Kids deserve to step away from the daily routines and structures of school to enjoy being a kid, but they can still engage in meaningful conversations, explore their environment, and read books or listen to audiobooks this summer.

Here is a link to the Summer Slide resources we shared with your students prior to the last day of school. These activities are not required, but encouraged.

We encourage you to connect with the Jessamine County Public Library for additional summer learning opportunities.

Cram the Cruiser Event and Supporting our Family Resource Center

In addition to the items requested for Cram the Cruiser, Wilmore Elementary is specifically in need of:

  • Crayola crayons
  • Crayola markers
  • Crayola colored pencils
  • Glue sticks

Our clothing closet is also in need of girls and boys cotton/elastic waist shorts and pants. We typically need sizes 6-14 most.

Be on the lookout for an opportunity to help serve our Wilmore families. Mrs Hobgood will be creating a family support group for the coming school year. Look for this information on Dojo soon!
