Diets: The Liquid Diet

Purpose

The Liquid diet was made for patients who need surgery. The patients only drink liquids to clear out their intestinal and digestive tracts so there is no food residue left. This makes it easier for doctors when going inside the patient to repair the damage. The patient must follow a strict diet that is shown below.

Who Created this and When?

The Liquid diet was created by many doctors around the country when patients were required to lose weight prior to surgery. There is no specific date as to when it was created because many doctors were using it at the same time. The goal of this is for patients to lose weight for their surgery.

Diet:

Breakfast:

1 cup of coffee, no dairy (Optional Sugar or Honey)

1 glass of fruit juice, no pulp

1 bowl of gelatin


Lunch:

1 glass of fruit juice, no pulp

1 glass of water

1 glass of broth

1 bowl of gelatin


Dinner:

1 glass of fruit juice, no pulp

1 glass of broth

1 bowl of gelatin

1 cup of coffee, no dairy (Optional Sugar or Honey)

Snacks:

1 pulp-free ice pop

1 cup of coffee, no dairy

or 1 soda

Facts:

  • The liquid diet can be harmful to one's body if the diet is continued for long term results
  • Rapid weight lose may occur due to lack of protein and calorie intact, therefore, must see a doctor prior to this diet
  • When instructed by a doctor to take part in this diet, instructions MUST be followed exactly.
