Dear John Paul I Families

We started November off celebrating Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead). All students had the opportunity to create one Day of the Dead craft: calaveras (skulls), cempasuchil (marigold), or papel picado (decorative tissue paper designs). These crafts were then used to decorate the school, and as you can see by the pictures, the teachers did a great job at coming together to make the hallways festive and bright! Students also had the opportunity to visit a travelling altar that went to all the Spanish Bilingual schools within our Division. A big thank you to Mrs. Aviles from Holy Child Elementary School who led the students through a scavenger hunt to identify different elements from the altar. The week ended with a Loteria (Mexican Bingo) game played by everyone in the school!

Next week, on November 10, we will be having our virtual Remembrance Day commemoration. Students had the opportunity to start learning about the significance of this date, and why wearing a poppy is important, during our One Voice session yesterday morning.

As a reminder, next week our Fall Break commences and we are all looking forward to this mini-break. This will give us the opportunity to re-energize and gear up for the excitement of the weeks to come. Our break takes place from Thursday, November 11 - Monday, November 15. Classes will resume on Tuesday, November 16th.

Finally, if your child will be re-taking their school photos, that will be taking place on Monday, November 8th.
