Mr. Posick's Friday email

December 18, 2015

Thank you!

As we finish up these next few days before Winter Break, I wanted to thank you all for your support so far this school year. We live in a caring community that wants what is best for our students and our neighbors. I am amazed when we have our Food Drive before Thanksgiving for the collection of food that our students and families provide. You provide treats and coffee and brunch for our staff during conferences and the days leading up to Winter Break. Then the Giving Tree takes it to an entirely different level. Please check out our Twitter and Facebook feeds today for pictures of all of the wrapped gifts that you have provided those in need in our community.

First Tech Challenge

Merton families are invited to a First Tech Challenge (FTC) open house at Lake Country School on Monday, December 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

It will be a brief presentation about the various aspects of FTC, then you will be invited into their field room where they will share their robot performing on the field. They also will have their pushbot up and running to give kids the opportunity to drive a robot. Questions are welcome during both the presentation and the robot viewing. You are welcome to stay as short or long as you would like.

Merton has had First Lego League (FLL) parent-led teams in the past for grades 4th-8th. First Tech Challenge is the next step for 7th-12th grades. Lake Country is simply offering an opportunity for the community to learn more about the program. Please RSVP to Corinne Meissner at if you plan to attend.

Baby, it's cold outside!

Well, it seems that winter has returned, and with it comes the reminder about proper attire for outdoor recess. We do go outside every day after lunch so a coat and hat do come in handy. We stay inside only if the temperature drops below zero degrees or the windchill is less than -15 degrees below zero. If you are in need of any assistance with winter wear, please don't hesitate to contact me at

No Practice on Tuesday, December 22nd

After school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, students are able to attend Practice with Mr. Posick in the library. Other staff members join me and the students in the library to provide assistance with school work. Due to Winter Break, we will not meet on Tuesday, December 22nd. We will start up again on Tuesday, January 5th.
