For years, the Christmas celebration has crept closer and closer to Halloween. Christmas displays start going up in stores mid-October. Homes in our neighborhoods turn on their Christmas lights right after Halloween. Radio stations start playing Christmas music in November. However, recently, there has been a push to take back Thanksgiving. Cartoons show a turkey pushing Santa back into his lane. Memes are posted encouraging people to intentionally be thankful in November. Even Target and Walmart have joined in – closing their stores on Thanksgiving Day. It is good to see a public stand for Thanksgiving.

For many, Thanksgiving is just about food and family, and maybe football. But this time is truly an opportunity for us to reflect on the good things that God has placed into our lives – the blessings we experience. For me, my faith, family, friends, everyone here at Grace, the opportunity to serve God in a place where the winters are mild, and the material gifts are a few of the things I am thankful for. Your list may be similar or different – it does not matter. Being thankful is a mindset – a willful choice to be grateful regardless of the circumstances. I encourage you to choose gratitude.
