Writing:
Spelling words for the week. - We will working on colons to introduce a list in a sentence and to express time.
Reading:
- Reading assessment: Wednesday, October 31, 2018.
- We will be working on our fREADom reading. No, that is not a typo. :)
- We will continue to work on summarizing using GIST and checking our comprehension by using Author’s Portrait.
- We will continue to practice our choral reading. This is a great way to help with fluency. We read a paragraph together out loud as a class at a pace that I set. The more we practice this, the faster we will get and the more fluent we will become. The kids really have fun doing this!
- Reading Vocabulary Words/Phrases: alliteration, internal rhyme, onomatopoeia, rhyme scheme, form, free verse, poem, poet, repetition, stanza, rhyme, line
- Vocabulary Quiz: Thursday, November 1, 2018
- We will also be working on our sixth sign post from Notice and Note, Memory Moment.
- Your child should continue reading nightly for 20 minutes and then getting their reading log initialed.
Social Studies:
- The students will continue writing a letter and drafting a brochure to present their bid to the public to build the Stature of Liberty, The White House or Mount Rushmore. They will need to have graphics, a financial bid, complete with numbers showing what it will take for materials, labor, time, etc. They will also have to create a name for their business. Included in the brochure will be the history of the landmark they are choosing with the how and why it came to be.

RED RIBBON WEEK!
MONDAY, OCTOBER 29TH - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND!
Red Ribbon Week is a nationally recognized and celebrated event that continues today in the hopes that our children will be protected from the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs. Parents are encouraged to discuss the benefits of living a drug free and healthy life with their child(ren). Seele students and staff will have the following "Dress Up Days":
MONDAY: Rally in Red (Wear red clothes.)
TUESDAY: Drug Free I Can Be Anything (Dress for your dream job.)
WEDNESDAY: Drugs are Old School (Wear clothes from a past decade - NO COSTUMES OR MASKS, PLEASE.)
THURSDAY: From Head to Toe, I'm Drug Free (Wear crazy hair and crazy socks.)
FRIDAY: It's cool to be Drug Free (Wear sunglasses with your unicorn shirt.)
SPOOKY SCIENCE NIGHT!
All kidding aside, we hope to see you there. Please RSVP to your student's homeroom teacher. Admission is free, and if you bring a little bag, you just might get some treats!

GT Nominations are open Nov. 1st-16th. Forms are available online at nbisd.org or in the front office.
Early voting for the NBISD Bond Elections is being held now through November 2nd. Election Day is Tuesday, November 6, 2018. The bond package totaling $118.3 million will provide added SECURITY at all campuses, two new schools for EXPANSION and RENOVATIONS at several campuses. The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Bond Information Meetings for parents and the community will be at 6 p.m. on October 8th at ORMS, October 10th at NBMS and October 11th, at Voss Farms Elementary.
