A Grateful Heart by Jazmine Misola, Class of 2024
BEGIN EACH DAY WITH A GRATEFUL HEART
I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you,
praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you,
because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now.
And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more
in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value,
so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ
for the glory and praise of God.
~From Saint Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, Ch. 1:1-5, 9-11
Dear Saint Clare School Families,
Today, our Church celebrated the Ascension of our Lord. Easter, Pentecost, and Ascension Sunday hold the most significance in my faith journey. I find the statement in Matthew’s gospel, “....they worshiped, but they doubted” particularly interesting. “They” who have journeyed with Jesus, heard him preach, witnessed his miracles, seen him ridiculed, beaten, and crucified, and finally risen from the dead, still doubted. What did they doubt? Perhaps they thought he would be with them forever to continue to preach, perform miracles, and save them. Perhaps they doubted that his message would live on. And then, as if they had spoken their doubts out loud, he explicitly instructed them to, “make disciples of all nations…teaching them all that I have commanded you.” Still, as if reading their minds about their own doubts in their ability to fulfill this mission, Jesus says, “I am with you always.”
This message is a reminder to all of us that we have everything that we need to do as Jesus has commanded. It is within our power and our ability to be his hands and feet, to serve, and be each others’ keepers. There is no need to wait for someone else to take the initiative and step forward. The invitation has been given and the assurance that Jesus is with us always is all we need.
WITH GRATITUDE AND THANKSGIVING: STUDENT COUNCIL
With a grateful heart, I would like to commend the outgoing Student Council for their hard work and active participation in leading the Student Body. This year, Jazmine Misola gifted us with THE SAINT CLARE SCHOOL PRAYER, which we pray daily to remind us of the commitment to our mission. We depended on Tristan Fridman to inform us of events every day at morning assembly. We relied on Sol Han and Addison Gallegos to raise the flag each day, and for the rest of the Council who took turns to lower the flag each day. For the rallies, the Living Rosary, the Peace Walk, May Crowning, Catholic Schools Week, Open Houses, VIP Day, and other events for which they served, we are grateful for your leadership.
Thank you, Bryce Rapport, Jazmine Misola, Sofia Moreno, Emma Tañedo, Tristan Fridman, Addison Gallegos, and Sol Han!
On Wednesday, the Student Body will honor them and install our 2023-2024:
President: Sol Han; Vice President: Emma Tañedo; Secretary: Zane Sy-Quimsiam; Treasurer: Naomi Sanchez; Commissioner of Ecology and Stewardship: Bennett Nguyen; Commissioners of Spirit and Athletics: Meley Beraki and Kaleb Tang.
We are proud of all the students who ran for office. They are all leaders in their own right!
Please join us on May 24 at 11:45 in the church for the Installation Prayer Service.
