I hope everyone enjoyed this beautiful fall weekend.
Thank you so much for an amazing Back to School Open House week. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about your presentations. Thank you for going above and beyond to make our families feel welcomed, informed and supported.
I appreciate those of you who made a donation to the United Arts. They do so much for our school and any donation—no matter how big or small your donation is, every amount is appreciated. Our hope is that everyone, if possible, will contribute something. Please see Susan if you have any questions. Click on the link that best meets your needs.

We have a staff meeting immediately after school today for ALL staff. Michael Steiffle, the assistant to the area superintendent will be with us this afternoon. Please bring your laptop computer to complete a MTSS survey at the conclusion of today’s meeting.
Kevin Henkes will be here tomorrow for our first graders. Please be in the Media Center by 9:00.
After the training on Wednesday, we will meet with those of you who need help with your PDP goals. All certified staff will need 3 goals---one we will write for you and the other two you will write. We are asking that you have one personal goal related to improving your student achievement and one goal of your choosing related to your own needs and interests. Please have your goals written by Monday, September 28.
Our BIG parent community event is Tuesday night, September 22 from 6:30-8:00 at the McKimmon Center. Very seldom is it required that you attend a night event unless you are on the committee that is hosting the event. Thank you for understanding why this is so important. Please do not assign homework for Tuesday night so our families and children can come out and enjoy the event. We will also give every child who attends a Super Hero Leadership card. Juley is checking to make sure we have enough---if not, we will order more. If you can not make the event, please see me.
Lonnie Moore will be with us on Wednesday for an all day staff development. Everyone who is required to be here is expected to attend. We will begin at 8:00. All workdays are from 8:00-4:00.
Our New Zealand visitors will be with us all next week. We have sent them a tentative schedule for them to review and respond. As soon as we hear back from them, we will let you know. Our goal is to provide a day to day schedule so you are in the know about what is going on.
International Leadership Day is October 1. We are expecting around 50-60 visitors for this event. More details will follow.
Dress down day is on Fridays only. Dress down is operationally defined as nice jeans and spirit wear. Please do not wear jeans on any other day unless you are going on a field trip to the zoo or to the farm.
Walk to School Day is October 7. More details will be in next week’s Communigator.
Please be proactive and plan ahead. If we are out on a Monday, please plan to have a staff meeting on Tuesday. If you know you are going to be absent, please call this in to the sub line. The sooner you can secure a sub, the better.
Looking ahead. All committees will meet next Tuesday from 3:30-4:15 to establish chair and co-chair, meeting dates and committee responsibilities for the year. I regret that we will need to meet on a day other than Monday but our staff meetings are full with required meetings and trainings through October. After October, we will meet on a designated Monday.
Your classrooms and displays look amazing. Do whatever you need to do this week to prepare for next week’s visitors. Planning ahead prevents us all from feeling so overwhelmed.
I love seeing the great emphasis on vocabulary development and questioning in the classrooms I have visited thus far. Please remember to write down these words to go on your word walls and post the students questions on the I WONDER Board. All these strategies will produce great results.
My Schedule this week:
- I will be in a meeting on Thursday morning at RTP. I have been invited to participate in a THINK TANK called Recreate and Innovate Raleigh. I should be back around 12:30-1:00.
- I also have a Community Engagement Meeting Friday morning from 8:30-11:00 at Central Office.
Jason and I are hitting the Observation Trail hard this week. Please let us know if you need anything.
If you haven't already done so, please email your schedule to Ms. Price. Also, if you are leaving your classroom at a time that is not reflected on your schedule, please give a quick call to the office (*100) to let Ms. Price know. It is important that she be able to locate you in the event that a student is arriving late, being picked up early, etc.
Our 1st Cultural Arts Assembly is this Thursday. K-2 assembly will begin at 8:45. 3rd-5th grade will begin at 10:15. Please see the master schedule tab here for information. The assembly will last the first hour and then the coverage person assigned to each class will pick up class from the gym and either take outside to recess or back to classroom. Kindergarten Instructional Coaches are asked to attend the first assembly. 1st grade Instructional Coaches are asked to attend the second assembly. All classroom teachers will need to eat lunch with their classes on this day in order to provide ample coverage.
Thank you so much for staying for Curriculum Nights last week! You were so thoughtful
and your presentations did a masterful job of outlining the year. Because not all parents were able to attend - please send your daily schedule to parents in this week's Friday Folder.
Please turn in any Emergency Sub Plans that are still out there - they were due Friday!
