Summer Update for Glen Lake Staff
volume 1
Never forgetting!
The first is an article titled "10 Ways Teachers Can Fight Racism and Teach Tolerance." I don't believe that this article is earth shattering in sharing the magic secret to eliminate racism, but it does offer great reminders, actions, and links to other useful resources.
Leadership Survey - feedback and follow through
1) Try to be present in every moment, every interaction with students, parents, and staff. There are times when I may exhibit to others that I'm not fully in the moment. I want to give as much focus and energy to my last interaction of the day as I did to my first interaction.
2) Ensure ALL staff feel included, updated, and apart of our school. I strive to be more inclusive of all staff by checking in more often and scheduling opportunities to meet as smaller groups.
3) There were multiple staff that expressed concern of potential burnout. I appreciate your willingness to look out for my well-being. I will continue to ensure I have a healthy work/personal life balance, as I hope each and every staff member does as well. I bleed for Glen Lake and Hopkins, and will continue to pour everything I have into our students, staff, and families, while keeping a healthy balance at the forefront.
Welcome to Glen Lake
#Ready4Fall Task Forces
Some of the questions the group need to answer include:
- What are the different plans that are needed? Learning plan, transportation plan, food plan, opening week/PD plan, etc.
- How much time do we have to ideate? And, by when do we need to transition from ideation to execution?
- By when do we need to describe what the Fall Learning plan is to all of Hopkins staff, and to all of our parents/students? And, what message(s) should be communicated before that?
- Who is doing what? What does IDL do? HR? principals? teachers? buildings/grounds, nutrition, cabinet? etc
- Since we don't have guidance from MDE, what ratio(s) should we plan for? 9:1? 15:1?
- How much lead time do teachers need to get ready for Day One? Are there ways we can flex time to increase teacher planning time?
This work will occur over 2 phases throughout the summer. Each phase lasting approximately 4 weeks. You may have heard that MDE is identifying the week of July 27 to provide an update and guidance for the fall. By then, we hope to be prepared with plans to address multiple scenarios.
Construction/updates for our buiding
- A new sidewalk will be installed on the north end of our parking lot. This sidewalk will allow walkers from Woodridge to get to our school without crossing traffic in our loop. We had a similar sidewalk with our former loop design.
- New windows will be installed along the ramp and in the Media Center. The current windows would leak and definitely need to be replaced.
- Facade of by our main entrance, facing west, will be power washed. The current facade looks dirty and is one of the first sight lines when cars enter the front loop.
