Making a difference today to create a better tomorrow.

I BELIEVE You Matter!!
I Believe in Being a Top 20
It’s the 50th anniversary of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood on PBS, hence the video clip above. Fred Rogers is known for the infamous sweaters he donned as he returned to his tv home and neighbors on his way home from work each day. Each of us creates a similar kind and welcoming environment for our students here at Richmond Elementary. We create rituals and routines, much like Mr. Rogers, as we greet students with smiles and high fives, fist bumps and hugs. As students grab snack cart or ask for a hand with a mess in the bathroom, we are given opportunities to foster relationships, modeling all things Top 20. Take a moment to reflect on what you can do each day to be kind and neighborly, just like Mr. Rogers.
To James and Amy, thank you for organizing the March Madness Book Bracket! What an engaging, interactive way to foster the love of reading and promote positive culture within our Richmond Elementary community during the craziness of March Madness! Thank you for making a difference today to create a better tomorrow!

Reading is Our Super Power!
Looking for good reads to encourage the love of reading? See the images above, available in the download linked here: What Kids are Reading. The report from Renaissance offers favorite books, the factors that drive reading growth and trends in nonfiction reading. Expanding upon last week's 'Good Fit' book discussion, take a moment to check out the following strategy from Selecting Just Right Books. Remember: Keep our students reading!! "Children need to learn how to choose a book. Giving them the opportunity to choose from a small group of books is a beginning. Modeling how to look through a book--looking at the cover, flipping through the pages, and scanning the illustrations--will provide students with an excellent example. Many teachers explain the five-finger rule to their students. This rule reminds students to count on their fingers every time they miss a word in a particular book. If they miss five words, the book may be too hard. If they miss three words or fewer, it might be “just right."
