Nurses Updates
Nov 19, 2021
State Mandated Screenings - It is my goal to get started with this year’s hearing &
vision, and Acanthosis (risk assessment for developing Type 2 Diabetes) screenings
after Thanksgiving break. This will include students new to the district, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and
7th graders. Health appraisals and spinal screenings won’t be until the spring, however,
if you have a 5th or 7th grade girl or 8th grade boy who has had a spinal screening this
year at their pediatrician’s office, I welcome you to send me those results. If your child
fails a hearing or vision screening they will be rescreened in 2-3 weeks. If they fail
again, a referral will be sent home and your child will need to see a provider. You will
need to return the referral back to me after your child has been seen.
Immunization Compliance - I’m still waiting on updated immunization records from
some of you. You have had 14 weeks to get it together and I would really like to stop
hounding you about it. Again, if you need resources I have a list of free immunization
clinics around the metroplex.
Ps & Qs - Thanksgiving is the perfect time to
remind your children that grace and courtesy are not limited to the classroom and
should extend to the nurse’s office. “Please” and “thank you” goes a long way.
I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving Break!
Updates and Information
Carpool:
Crossing Guard Update: We would like to welcome Ms. Dilma, our newest Dealey Dragon! She will serve as a crossing guard for our campus at the corner of Lavendale and Edgemere both morning and afternoon. Please take some time to welcome her to our community. With this change, we will now be allowing 4-8th grade students to cross at that crosswalk during dismissal. Students should only cross once they see their parents. At this time, we continue to ask parents not to cross onto campus but wait on the sidewalks across the street. PK-3rd grade walkers will continue to meet their families by the Northaven Trail. Multi-age level families will meet where the youngest age sibling is supposed to go.
If you know of prospective families, please share this information.
