Can I bring in birthday treats for my child?
From the RUSD/Sierra School Handbook: A child’s birthday is a family celebration. We do not permit the use of instruction time to “celebrate” a child’s birthday. Balloons, presents, etc., should be presented to your child at home. Cake, candy or cookies at school are discouraged. The sugar makes it difficult for our students to focus on learning. To avoid hurt feelings, please refrain from distributing birthday or party invitations at school unless the entire class is invited.
If you wish to prepare a healthy snack for your child’s class during recess, please make arrangements with the teacher prior to bringing it in as some children have food allergies. As part of our efforts to promote healthy choices, we strongly encourage bringing in juice, fresh fruits, low sugar nutrition bars, berries and yogurt or other healthful fun snacks. Once again, we would prefer that cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and candy are NOT brought to school. We appreciate your support in giving our students healthy choices. If you bring in a snack during the pandemic, it must be pre-wrapped from the store/factory in individual portions.
Also, please drive slowly, cautiously, and watch carefully for students crossing the street.
UPCOMING FUND RUN:
Are you ready for some Monster Mash Fun…or FUNd, that is? The Sierra PTC is excited to give you a sneak peek at the first of our two largest fundraisers, the FUNd Run - mark your calendar for September 24 and get ready for the kids to lace up their sneakers! FUNd Run donations raise funds for the in-person Spanish instruction all Sierra students receive as part of our IB program, while also enabling contributions to other school programs that help make Sierra the special place it is. You can see all the FUNd Run details in your student’s Friday Folder next week. Make sure to check out the two sponsorship opportunities, the fun raffle prizes for students, and the exciting school-wide incentives, including turning Principal Westberg into a human ice cream sundae in front of the whole school!
