Panther Planner
Week of October 14 - 18
Dear Paloma Families ~
Well, it is here! Parent/Teacher Conference Week!
Parent/Teacher Conferences are a great time to learn more about how your child's learning is progressing academically as well as socially/emotionally. Our teachers have spent a great deal of time preparing for your child's conference and look forward to the time that has been set aside to discuss your child's progress at their scheduled conference time. Below are some things you may want to consider as you prepare for your child's conference to make the most of the time that has been set aside for you. We know that we are all BETTER TOGETHER....home, student, school. We are a team!
Remember, EVERY day this week is a modified day with dismissal at 1:00 pm!
Reminders and Updates:
- We continue this week implementing Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS). This week, our Location Expectation is for MPR. Students will receive instruction on how to be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible in this location. See the copy of the expectations poster below for your reference. Classrooms will participate in lessons each day to teach the expectations that are new this week as well as to review the expectations for the areas that have been previously taught.
- At the end of the day, when our student supervision has ended (about 3:35 pm on M, T, Th, and F and about 1:15 on Wednesdays) all remaining students will be brought into the office. Please come into the office to sign-out your student if you arrive after the above times. Student safety is a top priority. Thank you!
- Please take a few minutes to complete the TVUSD LCAP survey. Your opinion counts and matters! Families were sent a link via email to the survey. PLEASE use the link that you were sent. If you did not receive a link, you may access the survey here: https://www.tvusd.k12.ca.us/lcapsurvey PLEASE take some time to complete the survey. This information will be helpful as the district and school board move foreward in creating the LCAP plan that will be in place for the next 3 years. Let's see how high we can get our PES percentage and really show that Paloma Rocks! (See attached flyer for more information!) Thank you!
- Thursday, October 31st is Book Character Dress-Up day at Paloma! Students may come to school dressed as their favorite storybook character. Please remember that masks and weapons (fake swords, fake guns, etc) are not permitted at school. The costumes should reflect storybook characters and that are not scary or gruesome so as to make this day fun for all at PES. Students, please bring the book your character is from with you to school on 10/31. We will have our annual Book Character Dress-Up Parade as well...more details to come!
Have a GREAT week!!
WE ARE Panthers, WE ARE Kind, WE ARE 'Pawsitive', WE ARE SAFE, WE ARE RESPECTFUL, WE ARE RESPONSIBLE, WE ARE Paloma!!!
Warmly,
Kim Mazelin
Principal
Please Take the TVUSD Quality Counts Survey, if you haven't already.
Tips for Parent Teacher Conferences ~
2. Write down your questions for the teacher and consider asking such things as:
- How is my child doing in each curricular area?
- Are there areas in which my child needs to improve?
- Does my child participate in class discussions and activities?
- Is my child working up to their ability?
- How well does my child get along with others?
- Is my child completing and turning in classwork/homework?
- How can I help at home?
3. Share with the teacher things about your child that the teacher needs to know. This will make it easier to meet your child's needs.
4. Arrive for your conference on time. Teachers have many conferences and even a five-minute delay can throw off their schedule. If you have to postpone the meeting, please do so in a timely manner. Your time is valuable and so is the teacher's.
5. Show your child that school is important to your family by attending the conference.

Our PTA's first Trunk or Treat event is coming up on Saturday, October 19th. Are you interested in decorating your trunk for the event? Please see the sign-up attached to register for your spot. Space is limited....so sign-up NOW. :) See attached flyer!

Holiday Card Competition
Each year, the Superintendent's office and Governing Board send out holiday cards to administrators in the district, surrounding districts, city officials and local groups. We have students submit works of art and then some are selected to have their art printed on the district's holiday cards.
We are doing it again this year! If your student would like to participate, please have them use the attached sheet for the drawing submission. The winning student's drawing will be used as the cover of our holiday card and the student's name, grade and school will be included on the inside of the card.
The attached sheet must be used for the drawing submission. The list of rules are included on this form. We ask that the students turn the drawing forms in to their teacher or front office staff.
As you all know, this year is TVUSD's 30th anniversary and the district would like students to incorporate the 30th anniversary of TVUSD theme in the drawing of their holiday drawing. Please have them weave together the 30th anniversary and a holiday greeting.
All submissions are due by November 6, 2019. The parent will be notified if their student's drawing is selected. The winning students will be invited to the December 17th Board meeting where they will be presented with their card.
We are excited to see if any of our PES Panther entries will be selected! :)
