The Stegemoller Scoop
January 4-8
ISTEP and IREAD
It is ISTEP and IREAD crunch time! We will be hard at work preparing for success. Reading passages are getting longer and they will be responding to reading and citing evidence from the story. Daily math problem solving will change. They will be required to explain, in writing, how they solved the problem. My homeroom students have been working hard on learning different strategies and they can use ANY strategy on ISTEP!
I have been having conversations with the students about hard-work and effort. Please follow-up this discussion with your child at home. Continue to check Friday Folder work and homework. Encourage your child often, because they can and will be successful on these standardized tests! Attendance is extremely important during this time. Of course, use your best judgement before sending them to school if they are truly sick. Thank you for your continued help and support at home! We can do this!

MATH
We will be starting our Area and Perimeter unit.
Please make sure your child is practicing their math facts at home. Addition 0-12, Subtraction 0-12, and Multiplication 0-12. I suggest using Flashcards, Flash to Pass (App.), or print free pages online. We give the students 50 problems to complete in 3 minutes. If you need to know what your child is working on, send me an email.
READING
Starting January 4th, our classroom schedule will be changing. RTI will be switching with our writing time. RTI and reading will be back to back. During RTI time, we will be doing literacy stations and test prep. My homeroom class will not be switching for reading, but Miss Twyman's students will still be going to her classroom.
This week we will be working on Unit 3 Week 3.

We will be starting our Persuasive Writing Unit. This one is my favorite. In addition to writing, they will be doing friendly debates on different topics. : )
