Math and Science
Math-We are working on decimals for the next few weeks. We just took a test on 1 digit multiplication and will continue working on our math facts as we continue our decimal unit. Once students know all of their facts, we will move on to double digit multiplication. Students should be studying their math facts at home. We will be completing weekly facts tests at the end of every week. We will continue with timed tests throughout this year. Students do have the opportunity to take a previous fact test until the pass (20/25 correct) so keep studying!
Science- This week we learned about heat. Students should be reviewing their vocabulary on a regular basis. Next week we will begin learning about light.
NOTES: Students are able to correct any papers that they receive a 50% or less on. This includes homework and there is a note for them to correct and return. Many students have NOT taken advantage of this and their grades are low because of it. Please contact me if you are worried that your student does not make corrections when they could. I keep track!
Also: If students get their study guides (math AND science) signed by an adult showing that they ACTUALLY studied, then they will receive bonus points on their tests.
Ms. Schreiner's class does not have PE next week.
Reading and Social Studies
Social Studies: Students are doing a great job with their explorers posters. We did all of the research and organizing of information last week. This coming week they will finish up their posters in class and present.
Project: Our next book project will be a biography assignment. A lot of this project will be completed in class; however, the students will have a special reading log just for their biography book project book. They will have two weeks to complete reading their book. If they finish reading it before the two weeks is over, then I would love for them to read it again and again. It will help them to become more fluent readers while also helping them retain the important facts about their person. This will start on Monday, so be on the lookout for this special reading log.
Notes from the teacher
Our school is having a coat drive. If you have any gently used coats that you would like to donate, please send them in with your child. Thank you!
