News To Know:
Popcorn sales are every Friday. Proceeds go to various community programs such as the Humane Society, The Scott County Clearing House etc. Popcorn is $1.00 and money MUST be at VFES by 9AM Friday in order to purchase a bag for that day.
Our first Scholastic Book Fair will be next week; September 10th-14th during lunch recess. If you would like to send in money with your son/daughter please do so in a baggie/envelope with their name, my name, and amount enclosed. Thanks!
Our school policy is that students cannot have toys at school. This includes fidgets, slap bracelets, stuffed animals, etc. We are also having a lot of girls wearing fake nails to school. These are becoming a distraction due to them removing them and playing around with them. Painted nails are okay, but please refrain from the fake nails please.
Just a little note about homework...
Spelling homework is to be practiced at your own discretion, but nothing needs to be returned. There are examples of ways to practice in the DOT folder (these will change monthly). There will be a one minute read to keep and practice each night. Please have your son/daughter turn these in on Friday for a prize. Math practice pages will come home most nights unless we have a quiz or a test that day. We will send home a reading comprehension page every Tuesday to practice. Monday and Thursday nights the big green reading street book will come home for your son/daughter to practice reading the weekly story. You can practice this however you like as long as they become familiar with the story before we test on Friday. Homework is expected to be returned the next day; however, it is not graded. I check them and they are given a sticker for their chart. Once their chart is full they get a full night's homework pass. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Also, please check your child's "Papers that go home" section of their green DOT folder each night. These papers allow you to see what we are going over in class. This is also where students put the practice math sheets we do together in class that can help them on nightly homework.
Please also clean this section out each night so papers are not lost between home and school.
We have a new district calendar that is attached below. It has our early dismissal and 2 hour delay days listed for the district. Please make note of them.
