Warrior Weekly News
A Weekly Newsletter for Warrior Families and Students
February 2, 2024
Greetings Warrior Families and Friends,
It was another AWESOME week to be a Warrior! Seriously, the manner in which our students, families, and community show up to our events to partner in the incredible journey of high school, is so awesome. A powerful example was the hundreds of families who participated in our Course Information Night, where students and families engaged in conversations about the over 200 different course offerings here at MHS. These discussions play a significant role in helping students develop an academic plan that further develops skills and increases awareness of how these course offerings intersect with fulfilling careers down the road. If you were unable to attend this event, please make it a point to speak with your student(s) this weekend about their course plans for the next school year. As a reminder, course requests are entered by the student in Infinite Campus and must be completed by the end of the day on Tuesday, February 6th. If you have any questions about this process or course options, please reach out to any member of our student service or administrative staff; we are here to help.
A few other highlights from this past week included our dance team qualifying for the state competition, over 2000 people entering our doors for our Winterizer event, and our awesome Bandorama event this past Sunday. This event brought our two middle schools and our high school bands together to learn, grow, and wow our audiences with some wonderful music.
Hopefully, you were able to get to MHS for something this past week, but if not, make it a priority to get here for something in the coming weeks. Our students and staff appreciate your support and cheering more than you know.
Have a great weekend, and GO WARRIORS!

Have you talked with your student lately about vaping? If not, you should. Vaping continues to be a significant threat to the health and well-being of teenagers. Students are typically unaware of how addictive the drug nicotine is and often underestimate how powerful the addiction can become. Additionally, many students and families are unaware of how frequently other drugs are integrated into vape cartridges. Please talk with your student about vaping and the serious risks associated with the behavior. If you would like additional resources about this topic or other health-related issues with teens, please reach out to any member of our administrative or student service teams. We all share the goal of keeping our students healthy and on the right track to obtain their goals and aspirations.

MHS Student Parking
Dear Warrior Families,
We have reached the point in the school year where we have sold and fulfilled the number of parking passes for students that equals the number of student parking spots we have on the high school campus. We know that it is an exciting time in a teenagers life when they get their driver's license and want to continue to provide parking for new drivers moving forward. At this time if a student were to need to purchase a parking pass, it would be for our "satellite" parking lot by the soccer field. There will be a satellite lot specific parking pass issued to the student at a reduced rate of $20, students would need to register their vehicles just as in any other case. These parking passes can be picked up in the Athletic/Activities Office and paid for through Infinite Campus.
Just as a reminder, any vehicle on campus without the appropriate parking pass may be ticketed by the City of Muskego Police Department.
Please reach out to Mr. Brenton Roberts with any questions: brenton.roberts@muskegonorway.org or 262-971-1790 ext 4502

Junior Planning Meetings: 2nd Round
Our school counselors recently finished meeting with juniors individually to assist with their senior course requests, to help ensure everyone understands their progress toward high school graduation credits, and to discuss and support each student's future post-secondary plan.
When you talk with your student, please have them show you in I.C. the courses they are requesting. As a family, you have until February 6th to edit requests. Due to the complexity of balancing course sections and availability, teacher schedules, and classroom capacity, adjustments to student schedules will not be possible in the fall. Please take the time to look at our Academic Guidebook with your student, as well as contact teachers with specific course content questions. MHS Staff Directory
Lastly, please review the Class of 2025 Academic and Career Planning Information with your student about upcoming next steps in the post-secondary planning process.
Please feel free to reach out to your student's counselor if you have any questions after reviewing this information.
FREE ACT Practice Test
MHS is pleased to offer a full-length ACT practice test on Saturday, February 17th. Students will receive scores directly after the test and will be able to take all test materials home. This is a great way to get some real practice without the score counting towards college admissions.

Outdoor Club
Did you know that MHS has an Outdoor Club? Did you know that our Outdoor Club has an Ice Fishing team that competes in statewide competitions? Pretty awesome, right? Well, these Warriors had a big day this past weekend, and their great fishing helped our team qualify for the Ice Fishing State Championship in LaCrosse in February. Keep up the great work and tight lines!

Winterizer
On Friday, our team ran our DemoBot and STEM learning stations at a community event called the Winterizer! We were happy to be able to share robotics with over 120 students in our community.
Prototyping
With prototyping done, we finished most of the manufacturing for our subsystems, and were able to assemble the robot.
CAD
This week the V1 CAD design of the robot was finished and we’ve been mass manufacturing the entire robot. A big focus for this season has been to improve the quality of our processes and our manufacturing. Last season we removed all the hex shafts we had replaced on our intake to find them all within a 1/2in tolerance which might have contributed to some issues in the past.
Programming
After facing some problems with our previous swerve code when porting to Phoenix version 6, we switched to using the Phoenix version 6-generated swerve code and saw significantly better results. We slightly modified the code to incorporate a drive command and were able to begin driving the robot again this past weekend. We have also continued working on our vision detection system. We had connection issues with the OrangePis, but we were able to resolve them by setting our RoboRio to a static IP address. Finally, we did a code review to ensure our initial code for mechanisms was organized.
First Full Robot Assembly
To end last Saturday, we installed all of our subsystems onto our drive train, and have officially assembled V1 of this season's robot. It took many hours of work and thought. But this robot was able to be put together with only minor errors. In the coming weeks we will work on V2, we will fix all of these issues, improve upon our designs, and get ready for our first competition.
