From The Principal

Kia ora tatou katoa,

Something novel occurred at school this week -- we were here for five days! It has been a good week with the sun out most days, sports teams trialling and practising at lunch times, and the pool getting plenty of use. Hopefully we will get to enjoy some summer yet.

Fundraising for Cyclone Recovery

You’ll be aware of the devastation caused by cyclone Gabrielle, particularly in the Hawkes Bay and East Cape regions. We plan to have a gold coin donation day on Monday 27th February, to raise funds to support some of those affected by this event. All money collected will be donated to Eskdale Primary School. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Nude Food

I thank parents for the effort being made with our nude food initiative. There is noticeably less rubbish around the school at the moment, which will be delighting our Property Manager Mr Kloppers.

Bike Safety

I have spoken to those students who ride their bikes or scooters to school about the importance of being safe especially with the many younger children around. Students are not permitted to ride on the road or pavement between school and the bottom of the hill near the corner of Roberta and Riddell. No riding will be permitted between the school and St Andrews Village. If you see our students riding in these areas feel free to remind them of their responsibility and report this to the office.

Auckland Regional Dental Care

Auckland Regional Dental Services (ARDS) provides free dental care for New Zealand students across the greater Auckland area. To ensure that ARDS is able to provide their service, we will be sharing our school roll with ARDS as required. For more information about why we are required to share this information you can check the webpage of the Privacy Commissioner.

Payments to School

Thank you to those families who have already paid the voluntary donation, it really is appreciated. Our preferred collection method for these, and for class trips and activities, is via Kindo (www.mykindo.co.nz), but we are also happy to accept payment by eftpos or cash at the school office, or direct to our bank account (Glendowie School Board of Trustees, ASB, 12-3027-0305676-00). Unfortunately we are not able to accept payments by credit card, but if you prefer to use this option then Kindo has the facility for this.

Noho ora mai!

Staff News

Last week the staff and board acknowledged and thanked Hiranthi Jayasingha, who has now been at our school for 20 years. Hiranthi is a teacher in the junior class of our Montessori unit and as such has taught the majority of students who have been through the Montessori system. We recognised the great contribution made by Hiranthi, in particular her compassion and concern for our students and her dedication and commitment to the school. We know that her current and former students have really appreciated her kindness, care and gentle nature.

Congratulations Hiranthi, and thank you for your wonderful work over the last 20 years - we are so

pleased that you are part of our school community.
