Alabama Library Media Update
August 2020
Dear Alabama School Librarians,
As each of you prepares to welcome students back whether face-to-face or virtually, please know I am here to support you. Many of you will be faced with decisions to make that will be developed based on the safety, wellbeing, and success of our students in Alabama. I thank you for all you do to promote literacy, information literacy, and student success everyday.
As we do prepare for the school year, however differently it may look, I hope you take the time to read through the information curated in the August 2020 newsletter. My hope is always to provide you with resources and information to help you grow professionally.

ASLA encourages you to get involved within the organization at the leadership level. We need librarians who are willing to step up and lead the organization to provide a vision for the future of school libraries. This includes volunteering to serve on a committee, chairing a committee, or running of executive board.
ASLA School Library Reopening Guidance 2020-2021 Document
ASLA recognizes that limiting the school library program deprives students of rich learning opportunities, jeopardizes academic and reading achievement, and perpetuates educational inequities. ASLA believes that all school library programs in Alabama CAN and SHOULD continue to be provided in a safe and flexible way.
