Cambridge Latin Program

January 2015

World Languages Honors Night: January 21st 6:30pm

The Cambridge World Languages Department will be honoring students who have received an "A" first semester and have joined the Junior Classical League. The members of the Latin Honor Society and I are very excited to spend the evening of January 21st with students and their families!

April 17th-April 19th - State Convention

The Latin Club will be traveling to Rock Eagle 4-H Camp on April 17th to attend the 2015 Georgia State Latin Convention. This State event is a favorite of veteran Latin Club members! Most students who have attended can't wait until the following year to go back to "The Rock". There are opportunities to compete in academic competitions (great for college resumes!), arts contests, dramatic arts, oratory, chariot races, and Olympic Games!

We leave school on Friday morning (excused absence) and return Sunday afternoon around 3pm. Typically the cost is anywhere from $120-125, but we have not received a final quote yet. There will be more registration info to follow. Please put this event on your calendars!

Cambridge High School JCL

National Latin Exam - March 9-13th

Students who are members of JCL will be taking the National Latin Exam. We have 55 students registered for this exam! If your student is not a member of JCL, but would like to take the National Latin Exam, please e-mail me and send $5 with your student as soon as possible.

Over 150,000 students take the National Latin Exam each year, and many scholarships are available for students who earn medals. Historically, Cambridge students have been very successful. Last year we had a student earn a perfect score, and had a total of 27 medals!

Please encourage your student to start preparing for the exam. They can practice with an app at and take practice exams.

National Latin Vocabulary and National Roman History Exam

The National Junior Classical League is also offering a vocabulary and roman history exam. Registration is due by January 25th, and the cost is $4 each for this exam.

Medusa Mythology Exam

This exam is for all of those students fascinated by Roman/Greek mythology! This year's theme is Monsters!
