Empowering Writers
This workshop is geared for teachers of kindergarten and grade 1, language arts specialists, and administrators. Participants will learn how to:
- Examine the developmental stages of writing
- Explore the reading-writing connection
- Use literature and informational texts as a jumping off point for instruction
- Identify genre and purpose
- Recognize critical elements of narrative, informational, & opinion writing
- Teach age-appropriate summarization skills
- Share the power of vivid elaboration
- Introduce games for vocabulary development
- Recognize and build suspense
- Apply age-appropriate research skills
Resources Needed
Take note taking materials. All Empowering Writers manuals will be at the facility when we check in. We pre-purchased materials when we registered. I have a credit card and the van reserved.

MISD Center for Performing Arts
We will need to meet at about 2 p.m. at the Transportation Department (bus barn) at Hudson ISD. We hope to leave around 2:15 p.m. May want to layer in case the training room is cool.
