Celebrating 100 Days of School

On Friday we celebrated the 100th day of school on the 101st day! Around the building students' citizenship was celebrated with each grade-level challenged with finding at least 100 acts of kindness, in line with LEAD 2021 strategic objective number 3: all members of the GCISD family will promote good citizenship and demonstrate mutual respect. Students used their effective communication skills to share their predictions on what life might be like when they are 100 years old by writing postcards, composing stories, and even using ChatterPix to have their aged portrait talk. Fifth graders were skilled problem solvers and collaborative workers as they engaged in a 100 days smarter scavenger hunt and read out. Next time you are at BES, visit the landing by the kindergarten hall to see the plethora of ways first graders represented the number 100.

Our BES Texans are 100 days smarter and working toward the GCISD Portrait of a Graduate each day! Looking forward to continuing to celebrate the learning of our Texans during the second semester.

Tuition Based Pre-K

In an effort to continually serve the families of Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, the district is investigating the feasibility of a tuition-based Pre-K program, beginning in the Fall of 2016. Those families who have a child who will be four-years old, on or before September 1, 2016, may participate in the program, depending on community interest.

As with any of the district’s special programs, families must enter into a lottery to be selected. If there is enough interest in the tuition-based program, then the lottery will be held for spots at pre-determined campuses. The proposed site locations are Bear Creek Elementary, Bransford Elementary, Colleyville Elementary and OC Taylor Elementary. These campuses were selected based on current and projected student enrollment and building capacity.

Families who are interested in learning more about the tuition-based Pre-K program are invited to attend the GCISD Special Programs Expo on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Cross Timbers Middle School at 6 p.m. At the Expo, district representatives will be available to answer questions about the proposed program. If you would like more information about the proposed tuition-based Pre-K program, click here.

Invitation for Community Conversation

State Board of Education representative, Pat Hardy would like to invite you and your staff to join her along with other SBOE members, Donna Bahorich, SBOE Chair, Ericka Beltran, and Tincy Miller on February 16, 2016 at the Region 11 Education Service Center from 6-8 p.m. to attend a community conversation on the next generation of assessments and accountability. The community dialogue will include parents, business leaders, educators, and students. The information gathered will be shared with the recently appointed state committee called The Next Generation of Assessments and Accountability. To register for this event, click here.

Sock Hop Volunteer Opportunities

The Bransford Sock Hop will be here before we know it! The committee is already working hard to get everything lined up. They have In-N-Out Burger coming, cotton candy, popcorn, a photo booth, and all the cool games to play while you take a break from dancing.

Join your school community on February 19th for a fun night out together!

Please see the attached link and consider volunteering for a quick shift. The shifts are only 30 minutes each. Don't forget this is a great way for your older kids to get some volunteer hours!!
