A Note from Dr. Reynolds
WBE Families,
We hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and that your children come back to school ready to learn and have fun. We are beyond thrilled that we get to see your child's face in person. We have missed them so much. We will pick up Monday right where we left off. We hope that the last three days of virtual learning have been beneficial for getting back into the swing of things. This is the time of year we accomplish a lot of learning. We will continue to follow our COVID protocols and re-entry plan and will not be allowed to have visitors in the building at this time. You can find the latest information on COVID protocols on the Sumner Schools website: https://sumnerschools.org/index.php/covid-19-information-for-parents. Our WBE website contains information about our re-entry plan. Thank you for partnering with us.
Thank you,
Dr. Reynolds

Nurse Updates
Please continue to monitor your child and consult with your doctor for any symptoms of illness such as fever, chills, headache, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, new loss of taste and/or smell, vomiting or diarrhea. If your child has a fever >100, they must stay home and be fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medications before returning to school. Also, as a reminder, if your child is tested for COVID-19, they must remain out of school until the test results come back. Please email or fax the results to me.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Melanie Shepard, BSN, RN

STEM Update
School-Wide Holiday STEM Challenge
Here is what 5th grade accomplished:
5th grade worked collaboratively to make reindeer from sticks students collected from outside and other provided materials. Students were given certain requirements that each deer had to meet. (Reindeer must have 4 legs, be able to stand, have a head, neck, body, etc.) Students used the engineering design process to plan and create their reindeer.
5th grade also had to create a device to hold “Kevin” from Home Alone, to escape down a zip line. Students were given a budget to purchase materials they chose. (Materials included small cups, straws, yarn, washers, etc) Students worked in small groups to create their device and then tested them on zip lines in the classroom. Students used the engineering design process to plan and create their device.
