Books! Gadgets! Fun!

Super September!

There is a lot happening in your Learning Commons this month! Dot Day, National Library Card Sign Up Month, Read Your Way to the Big Game kick off, and more! The beginning of the school year has been busy! All classes have had an introduction lesson to the Learning Commons and have checked out great books. 2nd - 5th graders have had a review on how to use the Library Catalog and we are in the middle of showing them how to use the Self Checkout. What do you want us to do with your class? Let us know! We are always happy to help!

Happy September!

Mrs. Byrd Fort, Mrs. Sheely, Mrs. Gobbi, and Ms. Burkett

Thank you for your patience as we figure out our iPads!

ALL classes need to schedule an iPad class with The Learning Commons Team. After you have had your class, you will be able to checkout iPads. Please know that you will need to let us know your plan with the iPads so that if there is an app that needs to be downloaded, we can do that for you. After 2nd - 5th grade classes have had their iPad lesson, they will need to schedule a Google Docs lesson for their class. Students in grades 2nd - 5th will be expected to log into their Google account in order to save and share projects created on the iPads. This will be an exciting year of learning and growth with the iPads! Please let us know how we can help you!

September is National Library Card Sign Up Month!

Everyone needs a library card from the public library! This year, let's see which classroom has the highest percentage of students with a library card from the public library - including the TEACHER! There can be more than one winner! What if everyone in the whole school had a library card?! All you have to do is show your library cards to Mrs. Byrd Fort, Mrs. Sheely, or Mrs. Gobbi during the month of September!

We love celebrating DOT DAY each year! Dot Day is on September 15 (ish)...we will celebrate all week long! Students will be creating a collaborative piece in Art and we will display their work in the Learning Commons. During the week of September 15, we will have a special activity for students to complete when they are in the Learning Commons for checkout. Learn more about Dot Day at this link: http://www.thedotclub.org/dotday/

Makerspace Moments

Don't forget about the MAKERSPACE in the Learning Commons! A Makerspace is an area where students and teachers can go to create, explore, and learn. Each month, our Makerspace is going to have a Spotlight Activity that students can explore during Makerspace Moments. The September and October Spotlight is (in honor of Caine's Arcade and the Global Cardboard Challenge) CARDBOARD!

Makerspace Moments will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays - 7:30am - 8am starting the week of September 15. We will be giving classrooms passes for students like last year. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Read Your Way to the Big Game!

After BOOSTERTHON, we will be kicking off the 1st Annual READ YOUR WAY TO THE BIG GAME READING CONTEST. This contest is sponsored by the Educational Oversight Committee and will be a fun way to get students excited about reading! A parent/teacher letter will go home after the FUN RUN explaining the contest. The contest runs from September 14 - November 6. More details coming soon!
