Winter Universal Screening Updates (K-2)
Winter Screening Window:
January 4-21
** Changes for K-2 students
The measures of Spelling and Listening Comprehension will now be optional rather than a required measure for winter and spring periods. The state has recognized that encoding and listening comprehension may be identified from daily classroom instruction. Teachers that would like more information on their students, these assessments may be administered.
*** Analysis of Concepts and Applications scores should be used for Tier 1 guidance and not placement in Tiers 2 or 3

Silent Reading Fluency
The Silent Reading Fluency Measure can be a confusing measure to understand. It is most frequently used for progress monitoring in the area of reading comprehension. SRF demonstrates a student's automaticity of extracting meaning from text.
The following link explains in greater detail the purpose and scoring.
Survey Level Assessment
Survey Level Assessment (SLA) allows off-grade testing, that is, at a lower level than the student's grade. SLAs may be completed at any time with any measure that is available for progress monitoring. The following link provides a quick guide on a few different ways an SLA may be administered.
Quick steps for Survey Level Assessment
Percentile Ranks are often misunderstood. The following provides more information on understanding what information percentile ranks provide.

Reading Rangers Update:
Schools without a site license may assign Reading Rangers to Tier 2 and Tier 3 students as needed. Please cross-check that students with licenses are those in tiers who are using Reading Rangers. We are currently out of purchased licenses. Please uncheck licenses for students not in tiers so we may use those licenses for our Tier 2 and Tier 3 students. We are evaluating how many more licenses we may need to purchase to meet the needs of our Tier 2 and Tier 3 students.
Elementary Reading Intervention Guidance
In Voyager, Book A is utilized during the first semester and Book B, for the second semester.
The reason for this is to ensure students are staying on track and not falling increasingly behind. We recommend checking with interventionists to discuss groups' pacing and differentiation within each program to address specific needs but continue moving forward without widening the gap. Students in Voyager should begin using Book B second semester.

Reminders
Fidelity Checks are expected to occur and be entered into ASPEN twice a semester for T2 and three times per semester for T3.
The TN RTI2 Framework Guidelines:
T2 and T3 intervention groups are to remain small for the individualized assistance these students need for closing skill gaps.
Elementary T2= 1:5
Elementary T3= 1:3
Secondary T2= 1:12*
Secondary T3= 1:12*
*Smaller groups are suggested for more individualized interventions.
